Why did ATT/DirecTv drop because of fees NewsMax but keep CNN which has higher fees and lower ratings?

Simple, the agreement with CNN isn’t up for renewal. Directv can’t drop them even if they wanted to until that agreement ends. What they pay any channel for carriage fees has absolutely nothing to do with any other channel, so what they pay CNN is irrelevant. Besides that, CNN is owned by Warner Media, so any agreement is probably for a group of channels, not individual channels.

All we know is DirecTV and Newsmax did not find a compromise between their offers. So once carriage agreement ended, Newsmax pulled the feed (which is their right). Negotiations are no longer ongoing, however DirecTV is leaving the door open if Newsmax decides to start talks again.
Prior negotiations, or new ones if they start again are between DirecTV and Newsmax. CNN is not a part of those negotiations, regardless of your personal preferences regarding that channel.

Thanks Juniper. The information that was being spread was that DirecTV dropped newsmax because of fees and ratings. That didn't seem right to me for any channel to just be dropped. I appreciate your explanation.

Also, the same live content is available on Newsmax streaming app free as well as other media sources like YouTube or Pluto, etc.

Too many people say the channel was dropped by DirecTV. That isn't true when they were negotiating and just didn't find a new deal that both could agree to.
Simply put, DirecTV cannot force Newsmax to return the channel and neither side can force the other to accept their carriage proposal.
