My direct tv shows internet connection is successful but it's not working?

DirecTV is service by satellite, internet not required. That is for optional features.
What exactly is not working? (symptoms, error messages, etc.)
Model of boxes? (trouble on all or just certain ones?)
Anything changed before problem started?
