Canceling newsmax

This is just a public forum of other customers. Whatever agreement settled between DIRECTV and NewsMax is beyond our knowledge as customers. All we can do is wait until tomorrow.

If it is indeed dropped, you can cancel by calling in (number in my greeting below) and saying ‘cancel’ to the robot. All leased equipment gets returned to a participating FedEx or UPS location with your account number. Be sure to keep the receipt given to you by the clerk so you can avoid the possibility of an equipment non return fee (ERF) as you now have proof of return.

Additionally, if you are somehow still locked into a contract, DIRECTV will charge you $20 for every month left. This is known as the early termination fee (ETF). These are restarted when you add/upgrade to new equipment or move services to another address. If you haven’t done this within the last 2 years, you should be good to cancel without the fee. 

Newsmax and OANN are different situations.

With OANN, DirecTV did not want to continue carrying the channel so just let that last agreement expire without even going through negotiations.

With Newsmax, they are wanting to add cost that DirecTV is not willing to pay. So they are negotiating on this. If agreement is not reached by the deadline and Newsmax pulls the feed, it is not necesserilly the end. They can continue negotiating, and once an agreement reached feed is back on.

This is a public forum of other customers, so you are not writing a letter to CEO and board members. Like the rest of us, we shall have to wait and see.

Agree about cancelling Newsmax. I will cancel as well. Could AT&T screw up a once great and reputable company any worse????

I am an AT&T retiree who has watched a once reputable company go down the toilet. If you cancel Newsmax, i'm cancelling Directv.

DirecTV is NOT canceling Newsmax. They are negotiating for the next carriage agreement and the deadline when Newsmax could/would pull the feed (until negotations complete) is comming up.

The only thing screwed up is all the assumptions being made instead of finding out what is really going on.

I will say that DirecTV seen better days than when AT&T aquired them. In my experience, they bit off more than they could chew. With the new co-owner taking over the reins, I hope to see improvements.

However, carraige negotiations happened before AT&T and will happen after. That is how the TV industry works. Some negotiations are just more visible than others.

Appears that DTV and Newsmax didn't reach an agreement by the contract deadline so Newsmax removed their feed to DTV.  Most contracts expire at midnight.
