WPBF failing

After a few seconds watching WPBF (Channel 25 on my Uverse), the screen and sound freeze. Going up or down one channel and then returning to channel 25, the picture and sound resume, but again after five seconds they freeze. Also, if I do nothing after the freeze starts, about one minute later a screen saying "signal lost" appears. Once again, going up or down one channel and then returning to channel 25 resumes the picture and sound but only for a few seconds.

And the freeze only happens on that one channel?   Does it also happen on 1025?

I do not have HD in my plan. Out of curiosity, I did just check 1025, but the screen contains text "You are not subscribed to this channel". Also, I have four TV's on Uverse and the problem occurs on all four TV's, one of which has a wireless receiver, but the other three are connected via TV cable.

The question didn't get answered: Is this only occurring for this one channel, or does it happen for some other or all channels?

@eddieda

Sounds like you’re using the original old coax cabling, yes?  Have you restarted all of your equipment yet?   Att will ask you to do this if you decide to ask for a service call.
FWIW, WPBF is my local ABC affiliate as well.  And yes, it’s odd in a way that in 2022 that HD service is still an extra fee, but it is what it is.

About 6 years ago they decided to fold HD in with all new accounts, but the prices for new subscribers went up $10 to account for that.  Subscribers who signed up before that time still have packages that don't include HD intrinsically, those who signed up after, do.

My wife records nearly all of her shows in SD to keep from filling up the DVR.

Sorry... I just also had a problem with one of my UPS boxes. To answer the question about other channels: No other channels are affected. I also see this same problem on all four TV's connected to Uverse. Three of them are connected via coaxial cable and one of them is connected via a wireless receiver. Yes, I did reset my modem/gateway. I actually tried this twice on Sunday and just now did it again when my UPS failed.

Interesting.... WPBF, channel 25, is all of a sudden working fine... I wonder if the third reset of the modem/gateway (the one performed when my UPS stopped working) finally worked? I did actually call Uverse support yesterday, who told me that they could not find any problem, but would report my concern to their management. I wonder if "management" did something?

The behavior you cite (locking up within 10 seconds of changing channels) is not unusual.  It happens as a result of a failure to successfully switch from unicast to multicast channel streams, and usually as a result of a change in configuration at the home network.

I've never seen it happen for just one channel.  That sounds like something is up with the AT&T equipment between your local video headend such that it wasn't properly generating the multicast stream for that channel, or at least wasn't properly responding to the IGMPv3 requests to deliver that channel to your circuit.

I'm glad the problem is resolved!

My thanks to everyone who responded. The problem I had is now fixed. I am not sure how it was fixed, but I am willing to accept success without that knowledge.

"My wife records nearly all of her shows in SD to keep from filling up the DVR."

I'm sure she knows of the apps, right? Then again, it sounds like the difference between SD and HD isn't that much to her.

She knows about the apps and on-demand, but would rather stick to the DVR interface.  She has access to HGTV+ but never uses it, but loves those shows.  She rarely goes to Netflix by herself.  It would help if the AT&T remote would switch TV inputs, but it doesn't.

And yes, she really doesn't care about the difference between HD and SD.

Mine does. I have no idea when the button was activated, but there's a really teeny button at the extreme lower left that flips inputs.

My Chromecast remote is smart enough to flip *to* that input.

The original silver remote had the TV/VIDEO button, which worked on her TV.  But she wore that remote out a long time ago (standard volume control issue).  The S30's don't have that button.

I'm not sure if that TV has CEC or not.  I may have to play sometime.

I use the input change button on the U-verse remote all the time.
