WGN and other terminated channels owned by Nexstar

Discovered last night that Uverse took away WGN. I am disgusted. Can't even find a link to view the current announcement of channel changes. Cost keeps going up, yet number of channels provided keeps decreasing. I give up.

Update: 9/18/23

We are here to shed some light on your current experience with some channels missing, @Sassy22

We pay networks for the right to provide the channels you watch on U-verse TV. When our agreements with these networks expire, we can usually renew or extend them. In rare cases, we may have to stop offering certain channels.

The most recent update, as of 9/18/23, is from a joint statement from both companies - "Nexstar Media Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXST) have officially reached a comprehensive new multi-year distribution agreement covering 176 Nexstar-owned local television stations and the company’s national cable news network, NewsNation. This follows the return of the television stations and NewsNation to DIRECTV, DIRECTV STREAM and U-verse on the morning of Sept. 17."

For detailed or additional info about your TV channels, we suggest looking into TV promise

We hope this helps clarify any concerns. Please reach out if you have additional questions or concerns.

Thank you for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums

Dispute over cost with Nexstar has caused Uverse to drop local channels for CBS and Fox.  Will this allow me to terminate contract without penalty?  CBS is the main network I watch.

If you signed a contract, you'll have to pay to terminate early. Why do you think new customer rates are so low? In addition, what would you do when Nexstar can't agree to terms with your new provider? Keep in mind they're in several disputes right now.

Ready to cut the cord....first you took away my channel 8, so I adopted Fox 59 as my favorite local news station. Now it's gone  along with local CBS.  Service is already overpriced

Going with Verizon for internet,  no home phone and a streaming service.

There are two sides to this dispute.  Nexstar took away DIRECTVs right to show you the channel.  Yes, this is because their previous contract ended and DIRECTV wasn't willing to pay Nexstar's asking price for the next contract term (which DIRECTV claims is twice the old one).  This will likely get settled before the fall season starts, though maybe not before some football games are played.

I woke up this morning and no longer have NBC, no channel 7 - only the same lame “we’re negotiating”, “it’ll be be back soon”, “thanks for your patience” that I’ve been seeing on ch. 16 and 38 for 3 YEARS!  When will someone at the CORPORATE LEVEL stand up and take some responsibility for this fiasco??  I’m beginning to wonder why I’m even paying AT&T, when apparently they don’t have access to any stations - just a middleman.

Apparently there’s an issue with Nexstar stations.

OP - AT&T has recently added EarthX, The First, NFL Network and NFL RedZone. Anyone who says they're taking channels away is lying, especially when Nexstar pulled their own signals.

2nd poster --  AT&T is a middleman. That's why they're called a TV provider. Call 800-288-2020 and use your $10 rebate to pay for Peacock.

Since  AT&T has stopped broadcasting a channel that I have already paid for, namely WGN TV, when can I expect a refund for lack of service?

Please review earlier posts.  It’s a Nexstar issue.

Skeeter is right. Nexstar is asking double what they're getting now.

How high do you want your rates to go?

In the past, AT&T would offer a small one time credit ($10?) for MIA channels during negotiations.  That’s about it.  🤷‍♀️

The last time this occurred was exactly four years ago and took two months to resolve.  What is the anticipated outage this time?  Also, it would be greatly appreciated by the consumer if the contract would go longer than four years.  It is very annoying and all for the almighty dollar.

The only people who know won't tell. Sure, it'd be nice if the contract went longer, but that's up to Nexstar. They're the ones who offer the terms. Of course AT&T would rather pay less and have a longer contract whereas Nexstar wants more money for a shorter contract.

@OttoPylot I'm not sure why AT&T internet service matters...it doesn't. I've seen a scroll across my NBC channel since June 30th. I thought it was solved when I still got it late on July 1st, but I guess it was just a temporary deal. (I assume the contract expired as June became July.)

And yeah, most people assume it's the provider's fault because they see a biased message from the channel owner. In reality, it's the fault of both of them. The channel owners are greedy and the providers don't want to raise their rates too high because they know there's competition.

It would have been on NewsNation and any local affiliates owned by Nexstar from 6/30 to whenever those greedy bastages yanked the channels.

@baseballisback how were you informed of the new channels? I never receive communication of any kind regarding new channels or terminated channels. All I receive is continuous email trying to sell me more services. Too bad we are paying for services but AT&T mgmt has no interest in keeping their customers informed. I still need a link to the announcement of terminated channels.

I hide all channels I don't subscribe to.

I then hide all religious and shopping channels.

I then hide all SD duplicates (I hide ESPN 602 because I get ESPN on 1602.)

The downside is that I need to unhide for free previews...but I can easily notice new channels pop up.

I went to TV Promise and it indicates there are no channel changes for my area which is not true. Where is the link to the publication announcing channel changes? It used to be on the AT&T site, but I can no longer find it. I don't understand why this important information is not shared with customers on a regular basis thru email or on the statement. All I receive are email asking me to buy more services. Why should I when I am not being kept informed about the services I already pay for?
