U-verse tv streams

I need a refresher on U-verse tv streams. My $40 a month internet 1000 promo expires next month. Looking online, it appears the best for 1000 may be $60. 300 and 100 are 45 and 35. If I downgraded to 100, what bandwidth would 3 att streams use? 2 older adults who stream very little, use internet for online bill pay, email, web browsing. College age son using virtual classes and some online gaming. May go with 300 since it may be $45. Called att elite care today, they said to early to get a new promotion. Call March 3rd after promo expires.

You're not likely to get a new promo after the current one expires since you've already had a discounted rate for a year, but good luck! The pricing that you are looking at online is for new customers, not existing. Minimum speed recommended for AT&T TV is 8mbps per stream.

I believe 1 HD stream uses... 8Mbps? But when when I had a measly 6Mbps internet speed, I didn't notice much of an issue.

Keep in mind that if you downgrade internet to save money, you'd lose HBO Max, unless you get it via another method. Also, this may be different for you, but I *can't* downgrade. The only speed offered on my account manager is 1000.

New customers typically get a guaranteed price for one year. Current customers are typically eligible for "X dollars off for a year." This means that your price will probably go up a few bucks as a result of the annual price increase. You're certainly welcome to call in a few days before your discount expires.

Keep in mind that promotions may vary by area. I pay $40 for 1000 down/up. My U-300 is $89, not counting various fees for local channels, taxes, etc.

@SoloTX This for U-Verse, a wired service similar to cable. AT&T TV is a different service and similar to Hulu or YTTV.

I've been an ATT internet customer for many years. I get new internet and Uverse TV promos every year. Typically what new customers get or even better for internet but not TV. Even if I didn’t get a promo, my internet would be $60 after losing my $20 off per month.

Thanks for the stream info. U verse and ATT TV are different services. I was thinking U verse TV was 5-6 Mbps.

The only time I ever got any picture quality issues were waaaay back in the early years (2008, 2009) with stuff like basketball. Fast-moving sports would create a lot of pixelated images, almost like a streaming video had to be stopped and re-started...but mainly with background images like crowds or stuff like falling confetti.

If he's a very serious gamer, he might have some minor issues if you select 100, but since the other two don't do much online, he should be ok...I'd think. Keep in mind that he'd be downloading. I doubt the gaming system can reach speeds of 300Mbps down. There shouldn't be an issue there.

We are $40 for ATT internet 1000 as well. We should still get HBO MAX for wireless service. If you call in you can downgrade. That was an option offered to me since the 100 and 300 plans are offered again. If our son isn’t happy with 100. My wife can raise his rent and he can pay for the internet!

I deal with the Elite Care Group in Chicago. Other retention's reps may not be authorized to downgrade internet speeds.

An HD U-verse stream is 6 Mbps.  Remember that 4 of them could fit in 32 Mbps and have a little (8 Mbps) left over for Internet.  Any Fiber service tier, even 100, will have no trouble with 6 HD streams.

@JefferMC Only 4 streams for us. We have a 500 gb dvr. If I recall, only the 1 gb dvr can get 6 streams.

Could be.  I don't know about the DVR restriction, since I couldn't ever get past the Fiber restriction.  Even less problem for 4 streams at 100 Mbps.

Yeah, there is a larger-capacity DVR with 6 streams. For whatever reason, the 1000Mbps connection is needed, even though 6*6=36 and you'd think a 50Mbps connection would be ok.

If 4*6=24 and I'm on a 6Mbps connection, then why must someone have a 1000Mbps connection for a DVR with six streams? That math doesn't add up.
