uverse app on fire stick exits while starting up

I just intalled the uverse app on my fire tv stick.  App installed fine and I logged in with my Uverse credentials fine, but it never seems to load.  Every time I try to invoke the app, it starts to load, gets to a screen saying "Loading live tv......this may take a moment"  and then exits.  Is this a common problem?  My internet connection is great and all my other apps on fire tv work great.

Update:  Ok, after 12 hours, the Uverse app is now loading but I'm not seeing all my channels, especially the local network channels which was the main reason I wanted the app.  Do the local network feeds not work through U-verse app?

ok, further update:  after reviewing other posts around AT&T Uverse, it seems that this is a contract issue between AT&T and Network affiliates.   This is very disappointing as I also cannot load these channels through the major network apps on Fire TV for the same reason....Bottom line, no possible way to view major network broadcasting on Fire tv if you are an AT&T customer.  Bummer.....

The FireTV streaming option is not intended to fully replace an AT&T U-verse TV Receiver.

Yeah, thanks.  That is obvious, but it is unfortunate that it is due to contractual issues as other providers do not have similar limitations.

It’s not a contract issue.  It’s what att has chosen to provide.

I believe that AT&T has chosen to write its contracts with its vendors in such a way to reduce its costs.  Thus it is both a decision by AT&T and now a contractual obligation due to that decision.

Hi Mr. Jeffer, sir.  Sure I hear what you are saying.  But look at it from the consumer's perspective.  I'm already paying for the streaming feed through the AT&T receiver for the channels in question.  However, I prefer the consistent UI and audio experience that I'm getting through the Fire Stick.  But I can't get that due to this contract limitation.  So while AT&T continues to keep "their" costs down, sooner or later, I'll ditch AT&T altogether for channel lineup when I figure out how to get the local channels via my Firestick.  Which may not be very long now.  Just sayin'.  I'm sure AT&T is probably crunching the marketing numbers on that....if they are not, perhaps they should.  Cheers. :)

AT&T TV is more in line with the product you seem to desire (vs AT&T U-verse TV).

Hey, thanks for the tip.  I saw that app as well, but I wasn't sure if I could take advantage of it, as I am a U-verse customer now.  Tell me more...

You can't keep AT&T U-verse TV and subscribe to AT&T TV, AT&T doesn't allow that.  You can switch (but can never ever go back).

AT&T TV requires you to have one AT&T TV device (similar to the U-verse set top).  Beyond that, you can purchase more AT&T TV devices, or you can just install the AT&T TV streaming app and watch TV on any supported platform (including FireTV and many others).  You can have up to 20 active streams at home, or up to 3 active streams outside your home network.

It doesn't have near the number of channels that U-verse TV does, but that's only important if those channels are ones you watch.  The DVR is cloud-only, deletes recordings after 90 days, and there are storage limits.

You can get it on a 2 year contract (device included) or without a contract (pay $120 for the device, either up front or at $5/month for 24 months).  I don't see how to do the contract online, you may have to visit a store for that.

It’s just semantics.  They control the product.  There’s no incentive to make fire tv look like a settop box when they charge rental fees for the boxes.  It’s the old cable tv model, and is still the case with companies like Comcast.
An additional example is mobile devices.  U-verse app does not match the same channels as settop when it comes to streaming live.
The att tv product does not require a settop box, but if you want the full UI experience, that only comes with their own streaming box customer has to buy.  So in this regard, yes, the fire tv will give more parity for the paid service, but still no channel numbers for instance.  This is easier to see if an att retail store is nearby where they have the product on display to demo.
How these products work are all substantiated in contracts, yes, but it’s the cost model att ultimately chose.
I’ll probably be buying a month of att tv myself to see how well my wife can cope with the potential change.

It's all part of the business model.  They pay provider based on a formula they agree on.  The fee is based in part on what rights the user has with regards to the signal.  AT&T makes agreements based on how they can and/or want to bill their customers and what the provider will accept.
