U-verse App... Menu Gone
I just fired up the U-verse app on my Android phone to record a ball game. When it opened, I get this huge add for "HBO max". What I don't see is the menu where I could pick the guide and set a recording. If I click on the add, it takes me to an AT&T web page which has a menu, but obviously it's not the app's menu.
Oh... wait... when I tried to exit the app, it prompted me for a survey... and now the regular title bar with menu is back.
Am I alone or is someone else seeing the same here.

I know this is off topic, but I'm hoping you'd be kind enough to help with my problem. I think I have a double NAT issue, but even putting my Orbi in AP mode doesn't solve it. I've tried everything that Orbi and AT&T tech support have suggested. All to no avail.
Here's the link to my detailed post.

Are you still unable to view the EPG inside the app?

I’m going to respond to your question here.
My suggestion is to factory reset the gateway. Don’t bother with any of that IP passthrough nonsense. When running a router in access point mode, the gateway will continue to operate as a DHCP server and will assign requisite IP addresses to devices connected to Orbi. This is exactly how my home network is setup. Oh, and don’t forget to go into the management console on the gateway and shutoff the radios.

@gr8sho , no, as soon as AT&T quit running the stupid HBO Max ad in the app, the problem went away. The ad was preventing access to the menus.
@msarrel , gr8sho and I disagree about whether it is better to run your own router in Access Point mode or in Router mode with IP Passthrough. His opinion is that Access Point is preferable. My opinion is that either way is fine, depending on what you want.
There should be no way to have double NAT if your Orbi is in Access Point mode. If you really are having double NAT, then you should look closer into your Orbi settings and/or maybe reboot it and/or factory reset it and start over.
If you want to use all the Orbi features, you'll need to run it in Router mode, which means putting the Gateway in IP Passthrough mode for it. Here I agree with gr8sho in that you should do a factory reset before trying to set that up.

@gr8sho @JefferMC Thanks for the replies. The short answer is that I’ve tried both router mode and AP mode, and the ping timeout problem shows up in both. Just the evening, I ran some tests with no Orbi at all (router and satellite powered off). Using the native WiFi of the AT&T gateway, I see a lot of individual ping timeouts. On a wired connection, I also see timeouts that are ten to twenty seconds long. That is, basically the same symptom as with the Orbi WiFi. Do I just need a new gateway?

That would depend. What address are you pinging against? Try pinging the first hop beyond your gateway.

@msarrel
Can you please confirm the gateway is in its most basic mode when the Orbi is set to access point mode?
As for your secondary problem, what exactly is prompting you to look at pings and so forth? Are you VDSL2 connected or fiber or…?
Using Orbi at all is really only a necessary solution to provide good WiFi, which the Arris hardware could never do for all gateways BGW210 and earlier.

I'm pinging the first router at the AT&T CO. Below are my ping command and the trace route to 8.8.8.8

So you are doing continuous pings to 162.207.92.1? And what is the loss rate?

Yes. I've been working this issue for months, so there have been a lot of reconfiguration. But, my intent is that I only do two things: 1) enable passthrough mode, and 2) turn off all the firewall rules.
I notice problems when using my internet connection for ordinary things. I play the board game called go, and I frequently get disconnected from the server in the middle of my games. It's a board game like chess, so it uses a tiny amount of network bandwidth. Nothing stressing about it.
I got the Orbi to make sure I had good coverage around the whole house. When we upgraded to fiber from DSL, we had to move the gateway to a different room that was not as centrally located.

@JefferMC It's not so much about the average loss rate, but rather long continuous outages.
In a recent test, I did 89,376 pings (one per second). Out of that, there were 582 timeouts. That's a rate of 0.65%. The impact comes because they are grouped together like this for ten or twenty seconds at a time.

You need to open a service ticket. It appears to me that your Gateway is losing connection to the Fiber device upstream. It may be that your light is marginal.
OTOH, maybe your cat is playing with the fiber drop when this happens. ;-)

@JefferMC I've opened service tickets with AT&T level 2 support a couple of times. The last time, they ran some diagnostics and checks, and didn't find any problem. I don't know the magic words to say to them to help them find the issue.

I finished reading the entire thread. I’d focus my energy on life after the fiber installation as you may have a completely different kettle of fish to fry.
Unless you need your Orbi to do some specific function, I’m sticking to my guns on access point mode.
Finally, if att does install the BGW320 integrated box, it supports WiFi 6, so it’s possible the Orbi will be unnecessary unless you need a larger footprint coverage.

Yeah, intermittent problems can be nearly impossible to get fixed because they're only visible for a short period.
You can try retentions (i.e. threaten to cancel because of poor service... then they may send someone out for you).
