Unverse

I have had uverse for a year and half and it goes  out every night at 1am. I am not able to watch tv past 1am. I have had new equipment twice and my house and yard rewired. No one at At&t can answer what is causing this.

What happens at 1 am?  Does the Gateway do a retrain or a reboot?  When does it return to operation?

@JefferMC

Hasn't AT&T equipment been known to act wonky when various things in customer premises turn on/off? I recall reading that it may occasionally occur.

Perhaps there's electrical interference from elsewhere.

However, as we are not technicians, nor are we employees, we cannot know for sure.

There are all sorts of possible causes:

  • HVAC on/off
  • Water Softener recycle (not daily, though)
  • Street Lights (but not at 1 AM, I wouldn't think)
  • HAM operator power up (not typically 1 AM)

Most of these things can cause RFI on the power lines or on the service line which can interfere with interpretation of the relatively weak signal.  In addition, some of these can cause power spikes or brownouts that might also cause the Gateway to reset.

It's not going to be possible to get a technician there at 1 AM to watch over it and see.  There will likely have to be some customer sleuthing required to get to the bottom of this.

Let me add that some people turn their AC off overnight.  By 1 AM, maybe the Gateway is hot enough to do a thermal shutdown.  Another possibility is that the lines are marginal and you do something (e.g. online backup) that uses a lot of bandwidth and causes a lot of errors and the Gateway retrains.

Still, customer sleuthing required for what is an unusual situation.  I don't have this issue.  I'd be willing to say that most customers don't have this issue.  Some other customers have had similar issues (many of the possible causes are taken from previous situations).  It may be a simple fix, once it is know what is causing it.
