HBO on demand catalog is broken
When I go to hbo/cinemax on demand there is only one movie there. It looks like the catalog is broken

Not broken. HBO has moved 99.9% of their On Demand programs to Max, their streaming service..

If you're paying for HBO tv channels, you're getting Max at no additional cost.
In fact, I believe the subscription is officially referred to as "Max" although it's been a bit since I've checked.
This is most likely a decision made at the HBO level. Other subscription TV services will probably have the same issue. They can put everything on one app that they control and then all subscribers receive the same exact content for the same amount of time, no matter how they subscribe.
Welcome to 2020.

Support can only see what's on their screen. It's highly likely the agent doesn't even have U-Verse.
There's also the possibility there's a contract requiring U-Verse to have an On Demand section.
It's also highly likely that this technology will go away over the next few years. Providers still have linear channels for their premium channels (HBO, Showtime), but these linear channels aren't really necessary anymore, considering a Showtime subscription included Paramount+ with Showtime, just the way a subscription to HBO includes Max.
They're probably required because of the occasional free preview, but we certainly don't need all 20+ channels of HBO and Cinemax.
If I subscribed to HBO, I'd probably use the channels...but only to pass time or for background noise. I probably wouldn't wait 15-20 minutes for some movie to come on when I can use Max to start it immediately and come back later if I need to.

I would believe that if there was no longer an on demand screen for hbo/cinemax and if there were NO titles there. So basically Uverse has taken away the capability to watch that content without using a streaming service. If I wanted streaming service I would discontinue Uverse and just use a fire stick and get a streaming service. The only reason I keep Uverse is so that all of the content is in one place and I don’t have to subscribe to a multitude of streaming services. Now I have to switch to something else to watch on demand. Maybe it’s time to re-evaluate where I get content.

@weweiss
So what's the difference between going to the 'HBO/ Cinemax' section to access on demand, or just going to 'Max' to access on demand content, now that that is where formerly HBO content is?
It's the same service with a new name

There is no max location. That’s the problem - I can’t access the on demand for max or hbo without switching to a streaming service and Uverse doesn’t support streaming. The only reason I kept Uverse was so that I didn’t have to manage a bunch of streaming apps. If I have to leave Uverse to get the content then I might as well just migrate to all streaming. The problem is that to replace all of the Uverse 450 content I would need multiple stream sources. I don’t need to replace all of it because I don’t use all of it anyway. I have looked into streaming but decided the convenience of Uverse was worth it. That’s evaporating. I can get an OTA system for local channels that records content and integrates with fire stick for about $300. Then all of my content would be available on one system/device. There is a Uverse app on fire stick but I have not had a lot of success with it - and I would still have to switch between multiple apps to get all the content.

I have U450 AND a Roku. In addition to having access to Max & the other channels via streaming, I have Netflix, Prime, Hulu & AppleTV. Each service provides different content.
Welcome to the wonderful world of streaming.

Yeah. I have fire sticks on all my tvs but it’s annoying switching back and forth - old TVs but completely functional. If I had success with the Uverse app on fire stick I could turn in the stb and just use that - but I seem to always have issues with it.

And that is why I kept Uverse. But if the service is going to erode and lose functionality that only works on streaming I may have to make the move to all streaming. It’s different apps but on fire stick you can switch between the apps much like changing channels. Anyway I need to go back in research mode and figure it out

How can it lose functionality it never had?
It's true that some providers have the apps in their equipment. DirecTV Stream has this. U-Verse never had this.
The loss of content from the "on demand" channels was 100% the decision of HBO.

So wouldn’t the better option be to post a message in Uverse messages advising that the content has moved to streaming only - and delete the hbo/cinemax heading from the on demand section? It’s still there with one movie, 4 series, and a lady Gaga documentary. So it looks like content is missing. I have seen no messages from att to indicate this is on purpose. Only an on demand section with almost no content in it.

And it would seem that when I reach out to support they should tell me that the content is no longer there - not spend about an hour having me reboot my dvr and have it download new code. That information is not stored in the stb anyway. So I just gave up on suppprt.

It is all moot now. I cancelled my service and went to streaming.

Hopefully you have hundreds and hundreds of movies using their on demand menu.
