FireStick U-Verse on-demand playback error QP1401

I can play live TV, including premiums on my Amazon FireTV Stick, but anytime I go to any of the on-demand shows or movies, it gives me an error "Playback Failed, Please try again (QP1401)" I have factory reset the firestick, uninstalled and reinstalled the u-verse app, unplugged the firestick from the TV and power for a minute then plugged back in.

I am not using wifi, since I purchased the add-on to have the Ethernet cable plugged directly into the firestick.  So it is not a connectivity issue. Also, I can play live TV without issue. It is just on demand shows and movies that will not play. Not sure if ATT wants to make everyone switch to their new Dish product, but it does seem that way.

What I received  back from AT&T in private chat. I had taken my firestick with me, so I wasn't on my home network.

After looking into this, I was able to confirm that the U-verse App for Mobile is able to work wherever you go. However, when it comes to the FireStick, it needs identification from your U-verse DVR that is on the same network to be able to get On Demand to properly display.

Let me know if you have any further questions!

DIRECTV....not Dish.

The new product is DirecTV Stream, which is essentially a rebranded AT&T TV.

DirecTV has been around for a long time.

I'm thinking it's either an error inside the Firestick or someone (such as AT&T or the channel owner) has said that On Demand isn't playable via the device.

I'm getting US0504.

If it's something that has a dedicated app (such as HBO Max), you may have to watch via that app.

@SteveW

Hello.  I just tested the U-verse app on my Fire TV 3 pendant.  It looks like the app has (surprisingly) had a makeover since I last used it.   I did not see any problems playing any on demand episodes for the very limited selection offered.

Any additional details you can supply to help chase this down?

Okay, great.  So it works as it should on your home network, yes?   It is my understanding att doesn’t allow U-verse app to function whatsoever outside of its 21 state footprint

I’m not aware of any limitations using native network apps and U-verse credentials in all of the USA.  In this regard the firestick should still be able to serve its purpose.
