ESPN.COM / ESPN app watching rights vis-a-vis U-verse TV subscription

See also https://www.reddit.com/r/ATT/comments/1mz1qhr/does_uverse_not_work_with_espn_anymore/

TV Everywhere access no longer works on my U-verse account, and ESPN.COM no longer asked for a TV provider.  It would have been a really good idea for ESPN and DIRECTV to make it more clear that their new streaming deals were replacing --not augmenting--the previous situation.

Need to hurry up with those ESPN accounts that I've heard you're going to give us, because we've already lost the content.

@mfpcarden  anything you can add here?

Wow. There's so much wrong info at that link.

Someone I know has Hulu and it seems to work fine there.

You can still use your U-verse TV credentials for third party authentication, including ESPN. It must be an AT&T generated email address and password, primary account or sub-accounts are supported.  You cannot use a gmail account for instance even if used to log into your myatt account.  It is not associated to the TV rights.
