Connecting external speakers to Uverse

I want to use a pc monitor as a tv. I have successfully connected the Uverse box to the monitor and the Roku to get a picture. But I do not have sound. I purchased an inexpensive speaker with a USB cable and plugged it in to the USB port on the back of the Uverse box, but this did not work.

Any suggestions?

lcgeren- Yes, the monitor connection lacks audio, The audio output of the u-verse  STB is the red/white RCA jacks. You just need to connect those to any powered speaker like the ones for computers.

This M-audio model is a particularly awesome example of the genre -

You may find that the speakers use a single mini- plug for both channels. If you get one like this, you also need a Y connector from the mini plug to two RCA plugs to connect to the STB. These will be red/white.

Hello, I’ve struggled with this issue for two years. Finally solved the problem! I connected my uverse to a monitor w/n sound. I’ve been using my child’s outdated “singing machine” with red/white C2G connectors; works but with low sound. Today I identified that my sound bar (over 10 yrs old🙄) attached perfectly with a couple options!

1. With optical cord (nice loud sound)

2. HDMI cord (allows the bass from the woofer)
