Can I cancel my U-verse internet package but keep the TV and still have it work?

I will have to have two separate coaxial outlets for them to work, correct. Also does the router for u-verse not have to be connected to the gateway for the tv for it to work?

Is this still the case, or does TV alone do it? I've had my internet from my TV provider since the late 90s.

The only reason the OP matters is if Uverse TV is already present in the residence. And if it’s already installed and working, then the only thing that changes is anything that tries to access the internet won’t work.  All physical connections should remain as is.

In the beginning with the first online access, yes, you could only access Uverse online if you were at home using Uverse internet.  That changed when they moved the app to mobile only and it then acted like every other app.

I've accessed the Uverse app outside my home using either data or a free hot spot (mechanic/beauty shop/McDonald's/etc.).

What I'm saying is that if I want access to watch ESPN (or any channel) via the channel's own app... At one time, my internet needed to match up with my TV provider.

But apparently this has changed and the channel owners don't care who the ISP is, as long as the TV package includes that channel.

There are some U-verse TV things that will not work when you don't have AT&T Internet.  The music channels use the Internet to stream the music and I believe that Internet has to be via the Gateway, i.e. AT&T Internet.

Even though the AT&T U-verse Mobile app will function on your Wireless Carrier network, etc., there used to be some requirements that you have AT&T Internet for it to be fully functional.  For example, the Receiver remote control functionality required it.

Well... I don't know that they ever cared.  In these days with multiple OTT providers, you can't even be sure that the video provider giving access even is an ISP at all.  You always need to be sure to login with the account that provides you with the access, which will never be your standalone ISP.

Also note that AT&T does do user authentication based on your IP, so that when you tell a "channel app" that you're an AT&T subscriber, and that app goes to AT&T to check on that, AT&T does check your IP... if your IP is tied to an account that has U-verse TV with that access, it doesn't ask you for a logon.  That cannot happen when your ISP is not your video provider.

Here's how I remember it:

When ESPN3 was a thing (live events only), it was the ISP that signed the deal to carry ESPN3. ESPN charged five cents per internet subscriber to give access to ESPN3.

When Time Warner signed as one of the last holdouts, they launched ESPN360, which was the first way to stream live ESPN channels, but as they do now, only the channels someone subscribed to via their TV.

But yeah...it seems like it's fully flipped. It's the TV provider that gives access to online streams and not the ISP. Really, the only benefit to having a bundle package is cost.

How do you connect the Xfinity modem to the U-verse gateway and WAP to be able to use Xfinity internet for U-verse tv

You have to keep the AT&T gateway for UverseTV.  No other gateway will/can be used for Uverse TV.

Are you saying I must keep att internet to continue to use U-verse?

No.  You don't have to have AT&T internet but without it you won't be able to access some Uverse features like On Demand.
