Where is CW?

We recently switched to DIRECTV STREAM and were told we had all local channels. We do not have CW, which we watch often. Where is this channel? Have we made a mistake by switching?

If you go to this link, and enter your zip code, you will see what locals you can receive in your area.

It shows that CW is available with all the other networks but it's no where to be found.. Anyone know why? The other networks show.

What shows that CW is available - the local lookup tool?  And where are you looking - in the program guide or in the Networks tab?  And on what device?

ROKU.. IT shows on web that it is available but doesn't appear in guide. I
also tried it on Fire Stick and App.Doesn't appear in either method.

Your issue may be that your ISP location doesn’t match your billing zip.  I believe one of the contingencies of them being able to offer local channels is that they must have verification that you are not trying to view those channels out of the area and potentially in  another affiliates zone. Matching ISP location to your zip code is a really miserable way for them to verify, but on some devices it’s the only option.  I believe with the Roku it’s their only option.  I believe there is a way to turn on location services (gps) on the fire stick though.  In any case,  I would start by googling from a device connected to the same internet service “what’s my isp location”.  If it doesn’t match I would check the fire stick to see if location services is turned on.

According to the sign up page, the CW is part of my package but it isn't in my channel lineup in the guide. What happened to it?

If it has a * next to channel, which I believe CW has, that means you might or might not get it. Check this link and plug in your zip. Here

No idea. Why not post in the U-verse forum located here instead of the internet streaming forum for DirecTV Now that you have posted.

For DirecTV Satellite, call 1-800-531-5000.

For DirecTV Stream, call 1-888-429-4023.

It is helpful if you tell us where you are and what the station ID is.

For example, here in the Dallas market, our CW affiliate (KDAF) is channel 9/1009 on the Uverse guide but channel 33 over the air.

Every market is different, hence the question of location.  We get the CW but some markets do not.  We got our CBS affiliate back but some markets did not.

Don't mess with old people.  The older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent.

Perhaps you made a mistake.  The live streaming services (not just DIRECTV STREAM, but also YouTube TV, Hulu Live, Sling, and the others) carry far fewer local (broadcast) stations than cable or (generally) satellite.  There are a number of reasons for this, but the bottom line is that for any service (and in particular for the live streaming services) you need to check the availability before you sign up (and all of them provide ways to find what they offer - the link above being DIRECTV STREAM's way).  DIRECTV STREAM does carry CW in some locations, but far fewer than they carry the majors.  They do carry CW on-demand content even if you don't get the live stream.

I was told all the local broadcast channels were in our package... not PBS.  Who would think that PBS wasn't available by a provider?  I just switch to broadcast when I want to watch something, but it's the idea.

Anyone who said all local broadcast channels were included lied - or was very misinformed.  Where I live, there are on the order of 70 broadcast stations that could be picked up with an antenna - DIRECTV STREAM offers 7 of them (a fact I knew going in - in fact, at that point they offered only 3 if I remember correctly).  They have agreements with the networks for ABC, CBS, CW, Fox, NBC, Telemundo, Univision, and probably one or 2 minor networks.  They can't offer affiliate stations for any network they don't have an agreement with.  Then they need to make an agreement with the individual station.  (These agreements almost always require payments to the networks and stations.  In most cases, the reason they don't offer particular local affiliates for networks they they do have agreements with is because the local station owner is demanding more money for carriage than the carrier is willing to pay.)  Because of the technologies involved, it is more complex for the streaming services to provide locals than it is for a cable service, so there are technical as well as financial reasons why they don't offer as many locals.

PBS is a slightly different case.  Until late last year, PBS didn't allow any streaming carriage of any of their content - that is,  it was PBS that didn't allow streaming services to carry their member stations.  They changed this last year and started working with (negotiating with, though we don't know the nature of the negotiations) streaming services.  The first that they worked with and came to an agreement with was YouTube TV, which started carrying (some) PBS member stations earlier this year.  So far it is the only service that is doing this, but PBS said (in the press release announcing all this) that they wanted to work with other streaming services and hoped to add 1 or 2 more this year.  Of course that was before the pandemic, which can't have helped progress, but it is possible that DIRECTV STREAM is negotiating to add PBS stations now - we don't know.

All of this is different from cable (and to a very large extent satellite) who work under different FCC regulations, have different technical issues, have (at least potentially) different levels of carriage fees, etc., etc., etc., from the streaming services.  That means (generally) that the streaming services carry fewer locals and likely will for at least quite a while.  This is the reason to check out which locals (and RSNs) a streaming service carries before you sign up, and the reason that DIRECTV STREAM has a link to the local lookup tool from the package comparison chart.

I am not doing anything - I'm just another customer.  (This is a customer to customer forum, not a way to communicate with AT&T Customer Service.)

If they carry CW in your location, it is on whatever channel it is on - you'll be able to find it in the guide (it'll almost certainly be on a low numbered channel if you are using the AT&T branded streamer, and it'll show up in wherever CW should show up in alphabetical order on any other device).  To see if you are "supposed" to get it at your location (meaning DIRECTV STREAM carries it, which requires that they managed to get a carriage agreement with the owner of your local CW affiliate), use the local lookup tool to see if it is included with the other local channels in your area.

Then a few reps told me that we are not getting it anytime soon, I asked them about unlimited recordings. at no extra cost. They told me that only the new customers will be getting it for free. If you are a current customer the 10.00 stays. That's not I was told they said everyone will be getting at no charger. The don't carry Me tv antenna tv decades tv.
