When Recording with Cloud DVR, how to extend the recording 5, 15, 30, or 45 minutes after the schedule end time?

On various occasions, the networks or local TV stations delay shows due to a sports event or other programming.  When I set up recordings for shows that appear (as an example) on Sundays, with AT&T U-verse, I was able to extend the end time for scheduled show by 5, 15, 30, or 60 minutes to account for sports events or other programming changes.

With DirecTV stream Cloud DVR, I have "lost" the final ending of 4 shows over the last two months due the lack of such a feature.  This is somewhat annoying as I can't tell that the ending of show is missing until I reach the end of the show.  Furthermore "On Demand" won't let me fast-forward to the ending that I missed forcing me to turn off DirecTV stream and go online to see if ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC have the show streaming on the web (where I CAN skip to the "missed" ending).

Note - on the Web, I've noticed that sometimes if I skip to the end of the show, the commercials are not skipped, but shown before skipping to the end (this is much, much less aggravating than being unable to fast forward at all).

Unfortunately at this time, Directv Stream does not have any way to extend recording times.  So your best bet would be to record what is on after they show you are trying to record so that you have it all.  Hope this helps.

As DirecTV stream does not have any way to extend the recording times, I would like to offer a suggestion to the app developers to add this feature.

Recording what is on after the TV show that I want, doesn't work really very well when the TV show is the 9/10 pm show just before the nightly news (I potentially have to record the nightly news on 4 network channels just to make sure that I get the 5 to 45 minute extensions on the various nights that extensions might occur).  I have used this technique and then every night I have to go back review the beginning of each nightly new show to see if a show was extended.

I am really surprised that the option to start early and/or end late is not offered. It has been available on comcast and other services for years. DirecTV needs to fix this soon.

It's one of the most often requested features. Who knows if DirecTV will ever add it.

Just got home, anxious to watch the Indy 500.  Sat through hours of the race only have the recording end WITH 2 LAPS TO GO!

Thanks for nothing DirecTV.

Glad for this forum, the inability to add extra time to DirecTV Stream recordings was a deal breaker for me as I was offered a nice package to convert over to Stream, but this problem is important when a sporting event, for example, cuts off in the 8th inning or in extra innings or in the middle of the the 4th quarter in football, that is a sad flaw. Maybe they will resolve this some day, we are in the 21st century now, May 2024, Need to be able to add extra time just like it is on DirecTV satellite.

Most major sporting events will automatically extend recording times, but it's not 100% perfect.

According to a friend who has the Stream DVR, he says some programs don't start on time and he loses the end of a program. Baseball games often go into extra innings, he says, and he loses the ability to add another 90 minutes to "scheduled" programming. I showed him how easy it is to do that with satellite. I know they want to get people onto stream but the technology has to be dependable. I like hearing that they might have some way to extend sporting events but until that is improved (as he told me) I won't make the switch. Maybe some day.
