Video Quality of Basketball
I've been a subscriber to DirectV Stream for about 2 months now. I view the steam via a desktop using a Sony Smart TV or a Dell widescreen monitor. The desktop is running up-to-date Windows 11 with no known issues. Both desktops I use are very current Intel based very fast processors with 32 GB of Ram. My internet provider is Comcast, and I measure 500 MBPS downstream and 24 MBPS upstream consistently. Note, I watch Peacock sports on these devices without any problems at all.
The problem that I am now having consistently with DirectV Stream is the video quality of the stream when viewing fast moving sports. Basketball is the worst, and is pretty much unwatchable. I went to show my wife the problem on the monitor, and the players were so fuzzy as to make it impossible to see their faces clearly at all. One face even disappeared for a frame or two.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there any work around or fix available? March Madness is here, and I can't even watch the games.

We're sorry to hear you're experiencing picture quality issues while watching basketball. It may be a compatibility problem. Check out Streaming devices compatible with DIRECTV | DIRECTV Support, and troubleshoot sound and picture issues at Troubleshoot DIRECTV sound and picture issues | DIRECTV Support.

I don't have a single problem with Peacock or Netflix or Prime. All on the exact same equipment. If there is any compatibility issue, it is on the DTVS end.
I am not the only person complaining about this. Are you going to acknowledge the problem or not?

The DIRECTV video stream resolution may be limited to comply with certain technical and security parameters that are required of DIRECTV by our content providers. Kesiah, DIRECTV Community Team

Are you watching live and "fast moving" content on any of these? There are technical limitations with compression. When compressing a pre-recorded show, the time compression takes is not significant and multiple passes can be made through the content for compression optimization. Also, changes from one frame to another are typically minimal, which helps a great deal with compression.
When dealing with live TV, compression needs to happen in near real time, and multi-pass is not an option. And when a lot of action is occurring, there are a lot of changes between frames, meaning more video data to process. This means less video information can be encoded in the same amount of data sent each second. That will result in lesser quality.
Different providers may have better or worse encoders, so there may be differences between content from the ESPN app vs the DIRECTV STREAM app for the same game. This is a fair test of video quality... you're watching the same thing. But comparing a movie on Netflix to streamed live sports is always going to make the live sports look bad, regardless of the provider.

Well Jeff, my whole post was about basketball video quality, so yes, there are fast moving scenes. No kidding, technical issues with compression? Well, the other networks are obviously using something that works much better, apples to apples. And what support do you get from DirectV? A bunch of nonsense about compatibility and video compression. Seems pretty clear to me that for whatever reasons, DirecTV is just ignoring their customers.

You were the one that brought up "Peacock or Netflix or Prime". I was pointing out the fallacy in comparing them to live sports, as it is NOT an "apples to apples" comparison. (Neither is comparison to pre-recorded sports, so "on-demand" ESPN is only slightly a better comparison to those above. Live ESPN would be fair.)

Fallacy? Not apples to apples? Delusional. There is no fair. There is only the results. And DirectV is unwatchable for fast moving sports such as basketball. And now, you may return to your word salads.

Fine. Move along. Why did you post, if you didn't want feedback?
