"The owner of this content has restricted its streaming availability"

My wife turned on the local channel KMOV channel 4 a CBS affiliate to watch Frosty the Snowman. Instead she got the message "The owner of this content has restricted its streaming availability" This channel is part of our subscription package so why was this restricted?

Sadly, the rights of that show's owner supersede DirecTV's right to deliver it. Crazy, huh?

I think it's disney that own the rights and they would not give CBS the rights to stream it

Actually, NBCUniversal owns the rights to the early (pre-1974) Rankin/Bass productions.  However, CBS has a separate license (I believe preceding the demise of Rankin/Bass as an entity) for Frosty and Rudolph, and that license forbids streaming.  So CBS broadcasts of Frosty and Rudolph (shown on local CBS affiliates) are not available on streaming services (even on CBS's own Paramount+).  Freeform has an separate license (I'd assume from NBCUniversal) for Frosty and Rudolph that apparently doesn't have that restriction, so when Freeform shows them, they are available on streaming.

@allencarmen  This is not a Directv issue it is the owner of the rights of the program that you are watching that most likely is the reason that it was restricted and would not allow Directv to stream it.

Yes but I had regular Directv prior to switching to direct stream and never had this problem so it must be an issue between them and stream probably to do with money, so they need to get negotiating

@allencarmen Yes, most of the time it is because of a $$ issue.  But on occasion, the owner of the rights will not give permission for it to be broadcasted over certain means this could also be the case and the people who are blocked out are the ones who suffer in the long run.

I settle in to watch a good movie and a couple minutes after it starts I get this restricted notice that says the owner of the content won’t let it stream.  Okay, the owner has the right to restrict their content, BUT why does DIRECTV schedule restricted content in the first place.  It’s so annoying when this happens!  Come on DIRECTV, don’t tease me by scheduling a movie, playing it for a few minutes then tell me I can’t watch it.

As previously commented in your other post, the service does not control the content. The broadcaster controls the content. DirecTV Stream only plays what is delivered. Your issue is with the broadcaster.
