streams limited by dynamic IP address solution
When Frontier referred me to DirecTV streaming it was represented to me that I could have 20 streams on my home network. However, I only get 2 streams and then it says "too many streams." DirecTV tells me that is because they set your home network by your IP address and that it's my problem not theirs because I don't have a dynamic, not a static IP address and that I need to take it up with Frontier tells me they don't offer static IP addresses to residential users. It's maddening. It feels like bait and switch or false advertising. Any solution?

None. The service has always been based on IP address location and your billing zip code.

But that doesn't answer my question. I'm always at the same place but my IP address changes regularly because it is dynamic and therefore it does not recognize it as my home network and limits me to 2 streams. DirecTV says I need a static IP address but Frontier tells me that I can't have a static IP address. I know you can reset it 4 times a year but my dynamic IP address changes more than 4 times a year then I am out of luck and limited to 2 streams again. Frontier referred me to DirecTV and one of the selling points was 20 home network streams but it actually doesn't appear possible given the reliance on IP address and the unavailability of a static IP address.

Your IP changes because Frontier changes the address. That is not DirecTV Streams problem. Maybe you should ask Frontier why they change the address so many times. If you can not get a static IP address from Frontier, then you will need to seek another streaming option. Just be aware that all streaming services use some mechanism to determine your location. It is what it is with the service.

No, I guess it's my problem. It just seems like when Frontier is referring me to DirecTV (actually transferring my call to them) and one of the selling points was 20 streams on my home network, that someone might have mentioned that it is not actually possible unless your router never reboots more than once a quarter. Seems like if DirecTV is going to be in partnership with Frontier (this was summer 2022) that they would tell you that you will be faced with this limitation. The purpose of my question was to ask if there is some kind of work around for this situation. It's not like I'm trying to game the system. Was just hoping that I would have what I was told I would have.

No, there is no work around. The service works based on your billing zip code and your modem IP address to provide the correct local and regional sports. Advertisers pay to reach subscribers in their DMA. By overriding they miss their audience. Sorry for the disappointment.

This happens when your ISP changes your IP address. Some do it almost never and some do it often. DTVS has not been sympathetic to those whose ISP changes it often. You are limited to change your home network 4 times per year. IP address is not a reliable way of determining if someone is or is not home. Other streaming service use other methods.

I would happily switch but the one thing I do like is their set top box. I'm not aware of another service that has a dedicated set top box that provides such an old feel cable interface. It makes it much easy for my elderly parents rather than having to navigate to the app through a Firestick.
