Sports Programs in macOS (Sonoma 14.0 (23A344)) Delayed from iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV

When I sign into DirecTV Stream from Safari in macOS (Sonoma 14.0 (23A344)), the broadcast is delayed by about 45 minutes from my iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV. The time delay seems to vary, but either way, any delay over about 5 seconds is unacceptable. Since I mostly watch sports, I have not tested other programming, since it has no interest for me.

I have tried everything, including:

  • Emptying caches
  • Logging out of DirecTV Stream and logging back in
  • Closing Safari
  • Closing Safari and restarting
  • Changing many Safari settings

I can open a virtual Windows machine, run Microsoft Edge, and that broadcast is in synch with my iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV. Running any other browser, even for testing, is not an option for many reasons.

The DirecTV support has not been at all helpful. I have called three or four times over the last few months. DirectTV support has cluelessly asked if I'm running the DirectTV app on Mac, but one does not appear to exist. Often, I get transferred to the "next level" of support, which appears equally clueless. One time, I was transferred to DirectTV Satellite next level support, only to be then transferred to DirectTV Stream support, but the call was dropped (of course!). DirecTV support is an absolute joke. No-one seems to be any help, and the game seems to be to transfer the call because no-one has any answers.

If I can't resolve this in the next few weeks, I will probably give YouTube TV a try.

After contact with DIRECTVhelp, DIRECTVhelp let me know that, "DirecTV advised that there's an open outage, number 1335368, where MAC and Safari browsers may experience a one-hour delay with guide data."

There was no estimate on when a fix would be implemented.

Another week, and no fix. It's not clear if DirecTV is interested in fixing this issue. Here's an example from a college game on 10/28/2023.

Here's an example from a pro football game on 10/29/2023. The Cincinnati/SF game was the later game.

Definitely some progress! We have gone from sporting events being a full quarter (about 40 minutes) delayed over DirectTV Stream on Safari (compared to iPad, iPhone, or Apple TV) to about 20 seconds behind. The delay persists, but it is much less. In my opinion, the delay should be no more than about 5 seconds, from what I've seen with other streaming services.

Oh, by the way. I have made several calls to DirecTV Stream since early August on this issue, when football started to be broadcast. I learned this week that DirecTV Stream only had a record of one prior call. Really! How can that be!? DirecTV Stream service turned from good to awful when DirecTV Stream was spun off from AT&T. Buyer beware, if you have an issue, don't expect a fast resolution!

DirecTV Stream should either fully support the Safari browser or clarify on its website that Safari is not supported.

Johan,

I have not hesitated to contact DirecTV. This issue is that DirecTV can not seem to keep a record of the conversation. As I indicated, I made 3-5 calls since August, and DirecTV only had a record of one call. Doesn't that suggest that contacting DirecTV is a colossal waste of time? What more would you have me do?

Your comment is simply another example of canned responses from DirecTV with little to no action. If you want to impress this forum, please do something about the problem.

Thanks!

Johan,

I'm sure that you value my time, but DirecTV Stream as an organization does not. My history with this matter demonstrates that. My several calls to tech support somehow never were documented, so I have had to go through the entire process every time I call.

I do appreciate the improvement with the time lag from MacOS Safari using DirecTV stream, but it's been very painful. Tech support does not know of the a problem. I am grateful that Jhon was able to determine and advise me that DirecTV was aware of the problem a few weeks back!

If not for this very helpful forum, I would be nowhere with this issue.

Thanks much!
