You can’t record only ‘new’ shows. Whatever airs with the series recording’s title will be recorded. However, once a few dozen shows of that series have been recorded, you are able to make a series recording setting that prevents duplicates of the same episode. The only way to record new shows is MANUALLY search for it and record it yourself.

To answer your second question, you can’t actually physically arrange for a specific program to go beyond the scheduled end time. The only way to do so is by recording the program that airs after the specified one you are trying to extend. If you are geering this toward most sporting events, then yes, DIRECTV STREAM will automatically extend the event and make up for extra run time.

this is a huge loss, compared to sat directv.

It means, when you want to record a cbs show on Sunday, you have to record the following two programs

Hello @mayehazel, we want you to get the most out your cloud DVR.

Thanks to @detuch254 for the accurate and prompt response. With Cloud DVR from DIRECTV STREAM, you can easily record your favorites and watch all your entertainment virtually anywhere.

Let's keep in mind that Unlimited Cloud DVR storage allows a maximum of 30 episodes per TV series.

In case you have any other question, please let us know. We're here for you.

Both with TDS and ATT Uverse you could program to extend the recording time. As much as I like my new Directv streaming, I find that not being able to do this is a real negative. Outdoor sports often go beyond the scheduled time, especially MOTORSPORTS and football. Directv should upgrade to allow extended.

If you search for the show, you can choose to record the series and the next screen gives an option to record all episodes or new episodes.

Thank you. But I'm trying to extend the recordings past their normal times.

There is no manual process to extend the time, The workaround is to record the next program.

One of the biggest issue that I’m having with DirecTV Streaming is recording preferences. With DirecTV Satellite we’re able to set recording preferences to record only new episodes in a series but with DirecTV Streaming I can’t find that option. When I set a series to record it records old and new episodes. Is there a way to set it to only record new episodes when selected without having to go into it and doing it manually?

When you hit record on a program---a popup comes up to select "new" or "all"

Ludwick577 please read my complete question, I understand that part but that’s not what I’m asking. My question is, “Is there a way to set it to only record new episodes when selected without having to go into it and doing it manually?” (The pop up is doing it manually). If you’ve had DirecTV satellite you would understand better. Also, when I do use the popup and record only the new episodes, under upcoming recordings it’s not showing that the coming weeks are set to record.

I used to have Directv Satellite--so I understand fine. The option/setting you are looking for isn't available on Directv Stream.

Ludwick577 I understand that part, I’m a former AT&T employee which was there when AT&T acquired DirecTV and was trained very well with it. I’m trying to get the attention of a DirecTV employee so that this is documented. If this issue is documented by them enough times maybe they will upgrade the Streaming. I know AT&T would’ve upgraded it, but since AT&T no longer own it things are not the same. But since I’m within my first 30 days and still have my satellite I’m going to cancel the Streaming.
