Regional Sports Networks

I have Choice package through my Florida based HOA.  I am currently in NY and have changed my home network as allowed but because RSN packages use billing address to determine location, I still get Florida RSN.  I have a Gemini box which determines my physical location and allows me to receive local broadcast but not local RSN.  1) wouldn’t this be a violation of TOS of out of market access for the Florida RSNs? 2) is there a way to switch RSN to use location services in the Gemini to allow the local RSN when in NY?  And 3) is there a way to pay for NY RSN when in NY ?

Hi @MB_user1. We use your billing ZIP code to determine your regional sports networks and local channels. To use your device location, follow these steps:

-Press the ‘Home’ button on the remote

-Arrow left to expand the left side navigation menu

-Arrow down to select ‘Settings’ (Gear Icon), press ‘OK’ on the remote

-Select ‘System’, press ‘OK’ on the remote

-Select ‘Device Preferences’, press ‘OK’ on the remote

-Select ‘Location’, press ‘OK’ on the remote

-Select ‘Location Status’, press ‘OK’ on the remote

-Select ‘Use Wi-Fi to estimate location’, press ‘OK’

-Select ‘Location Status’, press ‘OK’ on the remote

-Select ‘Agree’, press ‘OK’ on the remote

The applications will now use the device location. Carryl, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Thanks Caryl but that does not work for RSN channels.  I am told all RSNs use billing address no matter where you are physically located.

I actually think this violates the carrier TOS for these channels but that’s a different issue.  I just want to be able to watch NY RSN when in NY

You're right. Your access to RSN channels is based on your in-market footprint or RSN assignment. You can add the Sports Pack for $14.99/month to access out-of-home Regional Sports Networks. Get it here: Get DIRECTV SPORTS PACK | DIRECTV Support Fatmih, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Can you confirm that I will receive NY based RSN (MSG / SNY) if I pay the 14.99 /month?  I am in a Florida based MDU account with choice

Yes, you will receive both channels once Sports Pack is added. We're sending you a DM to help you process the order. Fatmih, DIRECTV Community Specialist

From my understanding, even if I purchase the Sportspak at 14.99/month, I will be blacked out of live games and only get pre and post game shows.  Is this correct?

Leagues may adjust a team's geographic boundaries; as a result, a customer who is in-market for the RSN may be unable to access a particular team's games. Carryl, DIRECTV Community Specialist

I am talking about purchasing the SoortsPak specifically to watch out of market games.  If I won’t get them then it is not worth purchasing it

The Sports Pack does not override blackout rules. So your situation wouldn't change as it doesn't change what market the service considers you in.
