My DIRECTV Remote no longer works. Somehow, in the transition from ATT to DIRECTV the streaming device became deactivated and no longer works. The way you have it designed, once deactivated it CANNOT be reactivated. I use a ROKU stick (actually several) to stream my DIRECTV and other streaming services.
As I stated above, my DIRECTV Remote no longer works. It became inactive some time after the switch from ATT to DIRECTV and cannot be reactivated. Besides, I didn't like to use it anyway because the TV picture color was overdriven and unpleasant to watch.

Hey @commnthings, here to help!
To record while watching a program or from within the guide:
1. Press the overflow button (...) on your DIRECTV Stream remote to record.
2. Select OK to record once or Record series.
3. Once the recordings are complete, the title is added to your DVR playlist. Press list to access.
You can also use voice option, too. Press the Mic button and tell Google Assistant what you would like to record.
