Our Local Fox Station has been out for over a year...

Using Direct TV Stream has been a huge disappointment, our local Fox station has been out for probably about 18 months due to some type of contractual dispute between direct TV stream and the local broadcasting station. We've received no update on the status of the issue, and when you select the channel to tells us the big ball game is available on Fox Sports, which isn't offered and Fox Deportes, which also isn't offered. Last year we couldn't even watch the superbowl because of this issue. I highly recommend you don't use Direct TV period of they can't resolve an issue like this in over 18 months.

Disputes happen with all services, both cable and streaming. Check the TV promise website to see updates to your local broadcasters. Also you might want to contact your local station to inquire on developments.

What update of status do you expect? They either have it or they don't, there is nothing else.

To verify if it is a carriage negotiation dispute, check their official website. Just to be sure you're not going off wrong or outdated info.

What station?  I'm not aware of any 18-month contract disputes.

I concur, 18 months doesn't sound right. With that long it sounds like something else is going on.

What zip code and county?

What exact local (number, network call sign)

What happens when you try to watch the channel?

This is due to the long ongoing dispute with Mission Broadcasting, which is also in litigation.

At 18 months that would be one of the longest running disputes. Though I do wonder if that is the OP's situation as they didn't mention Mission or what area they are in. If it is then fair enough.

Our local Fox station KLJB (Quad Cities Iowa/Illinois) has been off the air on DirecTV for at least 18 months now.  Zipcode 52803

KLJB is owned by Mission, but is controlled by Nexstar. This is Nexstar's way of getting around the rules of how many stations it may own to avoid hitting monopoly issues. DirecTV has filed complaints on it and still looks for a new carriage agreement. Seems everyone is at an impasse because of Nexstar's involvement.

@Juniper .  Thanks, I was just responding because the other posts in this thread seemed in disbelief that a local channel would be off the air for this long.  I bought an antenna so that I could watch the last 2 super bowls.  Frankly at this point I don't really care if our local Fox station returns to DirecTV.

I can understand disbelief, as I think this is now the longest running dispute. I hope that eventually Nexstar's claws into everything get trimmed so more reasonable negotiations may happen. At this point I'm not expecting anything soon. It seems quite the mess.

Posting so I can subscribe. I am the same boat with Mission Broadcasting and my local Fox affiliate WNAC.

Carriage agreement came up. Since DirecTV did not accept higher cost to carry the channel, which would have further raised our bills, the owner Mission no longer provides that broadcast as is their right.

Remember nothing promises, guarantees, or otherwise entitles you to any channel. Pay TV providers cannot force the channel to remain and the channel owner cannot force the TV providers to accept their new costs. Simple economics.

It is an unfortunate situation for those who really enjoy certain channels, but does not make the companies a joke. I would bring that back into perspective.

Your alternative is an over-the-air (OTA) antenna if you are within good signal range, checking to see if they may have an alternate online broadcast, or if you cannot live without the channel going with another provider is the option. Just remember nothing protects you from the same thing happening with anyone else.
