Only Certain Channels/Shows Choppy Playback

It appears there is some choppy playback on certain channels. For instance watching food Network and watching triple d sometimes the frame rate seems to be off. This is also on comedy Central say watching Seinfeld episodes. It seems like some type of equipment they use to record certain shows causes this issue where the frame rate is off and is jumpy video. Especially when there's a lot of movement. This is on a newer model Samsung TV with hdr on. I've tried it with Roku, the actual box from DirecTV stream, Samsung TV app for DirecTV stream, and also with the Google TV version. I have fiber internet with great speeds and that's not an issue and it's also directly connected with ethernet for the DirecTV stream box. Has anyone else experienced this issue with only certain shows and channels? I know there are a few posts about choppy video and going through them all would be difficult to find my specific problem.

Yes! I have the same problem. I also have a Samsung TV and a Philips Hue Sync Box. It's driving me crazy! I wonder if it is a Samsung thing?

It could be a Samsung TV isssue. If you’ve done a little research on the Forum, you’ll notice that many people with Samsung TVs have several assorted issues. Our recommendation is to usually go out and get a Fire Stick, Roku, or Apple TV. I could even suggest the DIRECTV STREAM Osprey Box which has a handy remote and faster speeds and performance than most other streaming devices.

In your case, what are your internet speeds? (Run a speed test where the Samsung TV Is located at speedtest.com). What happens if you try to stream from a phone or tablet?

I had this problem a lot when using Fire TV devices connected to my Samsung TV.  It was most noticeable with sports and other shows that had a lot of movement.  I switched to a Roku Ultra and that has eliminated the problem.  But I agree with others that Samsung seems to have some wonky video processing, especially on their newer QLED TV's.  I don't have the problem on older Samsungs.

So I am using the latest and greatest Fire TV Cube, which cost a pretty penny. I love the interface and I don't really care for Roku. I did order the DirectTV Stream Osprey box to see if it would solve the issue, and the issue presented itself slightly differently, but it was still there.

The TV is indeed a Samsung Neo QLED - QN90A - I am so pleased with how great this display looks and I shopped around a lot to land on this model. It would be a shame if it were the TV that is the problem.

It is strange too, since all apps (Netflix, Hulu, Disney+) work amazing and look amazing. Also, some channels and shows on DirecTV Stream, such as local FOX news, are flawless - There is a ticker on the bottom of the screen, and it doesn't even stutter for a second.

And being a pretty technically minded person, I have tried everything imaginable in terms of internet speed, wired vs wireless connection, etc. etc. I have 300Mbps Fiber Internet with below 10ms latency. I am using a wired internet connection which limits my connection to 100Mbps, but still, the internet connection is absolutely not the problem.

I have tried every setting imaginable on the TV, such as disabling motion interpolation, power settings, etc.

I have tried every setting imaginable on the Fire TV as well.

One of the reasons, also, that I am hesitant to switch from Fire TV is that I have the Philips Hue Sync Box to sync the lights with the image. It causes some issues when devices are using HDMI-CEC to talk to one another, and the Fire TV allows me to disable CEC completely. The Osprey box did not, and when I would turn the system on, the TV would automatically switch to a different input every time, and there was no way to turn this functionality off via the Osprey box, so it was useless to me.

I guess I could get the Roku Ultra and see if the problem still persists, but it seems so odd that I would have to do that.

There is one last thing. No other app has this issue, except for the live stream of Thursday Night Football, which runs natively on the Fire TV. It is almost unwatchable, with short spurts of regular 60fps but mostly a strobe-like frame rate drop.

And lastly, streams on DirecTV stream Website via Chrome on windows are flawless, and streams on the Android App are flawless. This would 100% rule out any internet/network issues, in my opinion.
