I understand why you are asking about it because it is considered a local channel for you in your area but it is not offered on the Directv Streaming Lineup as a local channel.  I have the same issue as you for me it is considered a local channel but not offered on our local channel lineup.  So unfortunately there is nothing that can be done about it until Directv Stream adds it.  So unless you want to watch the programming through the CW app there is no way to watch it live where you can record it.  But I have been told that they are working to add it to our lineup but who knows when it will be available?

DirecTV Stream, like other streaming services, actually does carry CW. Not in the guide live programing, but if you go to On Demand, you will find many of their programing.

Why would you need to record when all the shows are available on demand on the app???? Anytime you want to watch them.... There is a CW app in the google play store or in any device store.

CW channel isn't available on Dtv Stream and won't be anytime soon. App and on demand are your options.

It is incorrect to say that CW local stations aren't carried by DirecTV Stream.  Just like other broadcast stations, some local CW stations are carried.  Fewer are carried than for the major networks - whether this is because the station ownerships are demanding higher carriage fees than DTV thinks are reasonable or because getting the majors everywhere is a priority is unknown (probably a combination).  But as noted, if they don't carry your local CW station, you are limited to on-demand (whether from DTV or from the CW itself).

@celticpride - If you are specifically interested in the KTLA news, they offer that live on their website and on apps for mobile and TV streaming devices.  I know it is available for Roku, FireTV, and AppleTV - I don't know if they offer an app for AndroidTV (which would be needed for the DirecTV Stream device).

Are you able to pick up KTLA with an antenna?  I'm in the NYC area and CW is not carried here either (WPIX).  But I can get them with an antenna.

KTLA has an app for roku, firestick/firetv, appletv, google play store and you can use it for free. You can also stream KTLA free on their website and then cast it to your tv if you want.

Thanks for your replys about ktla! I cant receive any los angeles tv staitons with antenna , where i live 90 miles away from towers, we use to have transmitter nearby but after everything went digital they were never upgraded. I found the ktla plus app and the cw app and went ahead and downloaded both to my apple tv so i'm good now!

We can't get the local CW in Huntsville. The only CW show we watched was Walker. We could see it via Stream's On Demand. But two days ago, all the episodes shown under Season 3 disappeared from On Demand, and Seasons 1 and 2 weren't even listed. Today, Walker was completely gone from My Library, and it can't be found anywhere. I looked in On Demand, then I ran a search. It's just gone, period. Does anyone know what's up with this?

Know?  No. Suspect?  Yes.

For whatever reason, right now all CW on-demand content is missing from the DTV Stream on-demand library. Looking on the CW app, only episodes from season 3 of Walker are available - you should get them there.  (The CW app apparently still doesn’t require a sign in.)  Why aren’t the current season episodes (along with all the rest of the CW content) still in the DTV Stream on-demand library?  Unknown - it could be (and probably is) a bug. The on-demand content really comes from the networks, and if there is some sort of technical issue between the CW and DTV, it could lead to this. If that’s the case, it will hopefully get fixed soon.  It could also be that there is a contractual issue between DTV and the CW’s new ownership - a little over a month ago, Nexstar bought majority ownership from CBS and Warner Bros, who previously split it (each of them retained minority shares). If this is the issue, then it’s unknown what will happen in the future.

The episodes from seasons 1 and 2 are now on HBO Max.   Most broadcast networks transfer their content to their own streaming services after a season ends. (So they would be no longer available on the network’s own app either, which is the case here.)  For those that lack a streaming service (or didn’t own one at the time the episodes became available, or for shows not owned by the network), these past seasons are normally licensed to an “on-demand” streaming service (Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc).  The CW doesn’t own a streaming service, nor does its primary owner (Nexstar).  However, its two minority owners (CBS and Warner) each do through their parent corporations - HBO Max is part of Warner’s parent company. Originally HBO Max and Paramount+ (the CBS affiliated streaming service) were going to split things, but for various corporate reasons it was decided (at least for now) that everything would go to HBO Max.

It is common, especially for cloud DVRs, that when the carrier loses access to a program because of this sort of licensing, that recorded episodes also disappear (basically, the carrier no longer has any rights to offer the program).

I’m guessing that was a longer (semi)answer than you were looking for😀.

Thanks for the details. I had heard about the CW being sold, so suspected that may be part of the issue. Whetehr the issue is caused by a bug or a contract issue is the question. Thanks for the info, especially about the CW app.

Later this year, hopefully. Here's the current situation.

Nexstar Media Group, the nation's largest local broadcaster, owns and/or operates many TV stations DIRECTV provides. Every few years, TV providers and channel owners must work on new carriage agreements to continue delivering programming.

In this case, Nexstar is looking for rate increases for 200+ local TV stations in 100+ different metro areas across the nation, as well as NewsNation, the national news channel formerly known as WGN America. In most metro areas, there are two local affiliates (ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC). With this carriage agreement renewal, the CW and other Nexstar stations will be added, including KTLA 5 for the Greater Los Angeles region and WHNT for Huntsville, Alabama.

So don't worry, WHNT, KTLA, and other CW channels will be coming to DIRECTV Stream later this year, hopefully in either Q3 or Q4 2023.
