Network is heavily congested...

Hello everyone,

I've reached a breaking point with an ongoing issue and I need some advice. Since I’ve stopped using the DirectTV box and started using their app, I've been dealing with constant network congestion problems. I continue to get a message on my screen that says "Network is heavily congested..." when I'm streaming or when playing back something that I've recorded. I’m using an Amazon FireTV stick with Verizon 5G Home internet (270 mbps average) and the DirecTV Stream app on the Fire TV stick (current model). Despite following all troubleshooting steps recommended by ATT (clearing cache and data, uninstalling the app, etc.) the issue persists. I constantly receive error messages about the network being heavily congested, which is incredibly frustrating.

I didn’t have this issue when using an external DirectTV box but DirectTV insisted that I purchase another box after the one I have stopped working correctly. Instead of buying another box, their customer service said I could use the app instead of the box.

I've invested a lot of time into trying to resolve this issue, and I feel like I'm not getting anywhere. Frankly, I'm fed up and disappointed with the service provided by ATT/DirectTV. It's incredibly frustrating to encounter the same problem repeatedly without a lasting solution in sight.

At this point, I'm seriously considering switching to a different provider (e.g., Hulu, YouTube TV) because I can't continue dealing with this level of service. I wish ATT/DirectTV would prioritize fixing these persistent app issues instead of just offering temporary fixes that don't address the root cause.

After searching the internet for this issue, I know I’m not the only one experiencing this. If anyone else experienced similar issues with DirecTV Stream’s app and was able to fix it, how did you manage to resolve them, if at all? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Those tips are for a blurry or frozen picture. However, I’ve tried these possible solutions but they didn’t help.

Apologies for the confusion. If you experience buffering while streaming the DIRECTV App, or it repeatedly closes or crashes, try the following tips:

Check your Wi-Fi connection for stability and check for updates to the app in your App Store. If an update is available, install it and restart the device. Check for software updates on your mobile or streaming device. Close out and restart the DIRECTV App. Restart your device. Visit Get help with streaming issues on the DIRECTV App | DIRECTV Support to learn more. DIRECTV appreciates your patience. Arlyn, DIRECTV Community Specialist

I have the same issue there is clearly a problem with the streaming app. I connected Ethernet speed test over 800Mbs. All other apps including YouTube TV have great picture and no issues. So to you Direct TV FIX IT!

Same issue here, the app on firestick lately had been getting buffering and network congestion messages.

Wifi is gigabit up and down.

Watching the exact same football game on espn app on same firestick, conneted to same internet wifi, and it works flawlessly.

No other streaming app on the firestick have any issues.

So either the app is bad, or their streaming servers/connection is bad.

The ball is in your court directtv stream, fix it.

Been watching games all day here using Fire Sticks and Roku. Performance has been good with no issues. Might be regional or data feed from the content provider in your area. It's not the app or service or everyone would be down and complaining.

Definitely Amazon Fire App issue. On the same TV using the direct TV Chromecast plugged into HDMI on the same Fire TV everything streams fine.

If it was regional I would think the dtv phone app would have issues when connected to the same wifi?

Alabama game on espn app is great.

Alabama game on dtv app is horrible.

All the dtv apps on our 3 firesticks are having the same issue.

No other streaming app is having issues.

Same problem in NorCal.  Firestick/Directv app tells me network is congested.  can't watch game.  ESPN app works fine of Firestick.  Directv app on ipad works fine.  Same issue on both TV at home.  Tried: clear cache/data, uninstall/re-install app.  Download 92mbps.  frustrating.

Having the same issue described here. It just started doing this in the last couple of days. Before that, it was perfect. No changes in internet or app. Something is definitely not working right. What I’m reading here is there’s no solution and more people need to log their complaints so AT&T looks into it.

AT&T has nothing to do with it. DirecTV is a separate company from AT&T.

We are in North, TX and seeing same issue... "heavily congested, your video may not play smoothly"

This pops up every 15 min and video gets grainy. We checked app and device updates, restarted everything....nothing works. All of our other apps work fine on the same devices. Directv is the only app doing this. We pay too much for it not to work.

We are in Kansas City watching DirecTV streaming with a box, and are having the same bad poor quality picture issues on and off all day on multiple tvs, all with a box.  Checked Google fiber speeds and it is blazing fast. Super annoying to watch.
