Hi @JJK1954, and thank you for your input, @bcbsncjlj. It can be surprising to discover that some channels you have with DIRECTV via Satellite are unavailable on DIRECTV STREAM. This is due to varying rules and restrictions set by the networks for streaming. Kharl, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Because you can download music apps that are free

I am well aware of that. Thank you!  DTV Satellite still carries it. I was curious.

It is possibly licensing restrictions, as the rep indicated - I don't think any of the other live streaming services offer music channels either, so the various music services may want you to use their own apps.  And most or all of the music services' apps will run on most or all of the devices that the DTV app runs on (including the Gemini), so it's not a major issue, besides cost (since the DTV satellite service bundles in a music service).

Thanx. Spectrum still has music channels. Who knows?

Spectrum makes it pretty hard to figure out their offerings, but as best I can tell, their cable service includes the Music Choice channels.  Their cable service also includes (like DTV satellite and many cable services these days) a limited streaming feature (only to mobile devices and their bespoke streaming device I think, but I couldn’t find details). That streaming feature includes some subset of the channels from the subscriber’s cable package, but probably not the music channels - like for the supported devices, l couldn’t find details.

Spectrum recently came out with a dedicated streaming service (stream only, no cable). This is a separate service from their cable service.  It requires that you have Spectrum internet and it has a far smaller channel list than the cable service. In particular, as far as I’ve been able to find, it does not include any music channels.  (Well, it includes various MTV channels - to the extent they count as music channels these days - and things like that, but not Music Choice.)  So in that way it is like DTV Stream (and DTV via Internet), though a with much more limited channel list than even the lowest DTV Stream package and less flexibility and features (but at a lower price).

Thanx. I guess I'll give up on that idea! :-)

I am a fan of Music Choice and would love to see it included on Directv Stream, but it probably won't ever happen. The good news is that for $.99 (99 cents) a month you can subscribe to Music Choice directly. It works fairly well (the app crashes some times). You can download the app for your phone or install the Music Choice app on many TVs. See the Music Choice web site for details.
