Manual recording option
Is there a way to set up a manual recording? On a different streaming DVR I was able to extend a recording by a few minutes up to a few hours, which was really handy for sporting events. The auto-extend rarely extends long enough, and I end up missing the end of games unless I record the show after, which is a pain. I missed the end of the Super Bowl because of this!!

If you missed the end of the SB, that's a problem you should address with the reps here or at Reddit. There's no option to extend manually, but for sure, set up a manual recording there is: you have to go to the specific program (search OR by going to the guide), display the info page, and book it.
Auto-extend works for NFL (check this article https://www.directv.com/support/stream/article/000069768)
Note: Sports recordings are automatically extended where content continues to stream beyond the programmer’s scheduled time. Applies to the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA leagues, NCAA Football and Basketball (Division I), and Soccer (UEFA, FIFA). Extended sports recordings contingent upon third-party recording service availability and varies by packages, channel subscriptions & billing region. Blackout restrictions apply. Data connection required. Recordings expire after 9 months. In a series recording, max 30 episodes stored with unlimited hours of cloud DVR and max 10 episodes stored with 20 hours of cloud DVR (oldest deleted first which may be in less than 9 months). Restrictions apply.

I have a related question. The auto extend works. However, I was watching a NHL game last night, while the game was still playing. I just started the game late. I was about 15 minutes behind.
At 9:30, the time the recording was scheduled to be over (7pm - 9:30pm), there was a popup message at the bottom 1/4 of the TV screen asking if I wanted to delete or or keep the recording. Yet, in the background, the game was still playing.
It real time, the game was over. But, I still had 15 mins to go since I was watching the recording delayed. I was able to hit the return button on my Fire TV remote to clear the pop up message. Next, another popup showed up covering the bottom 1/4 of the screen asking if I wanted to switch to the program (a basketball game) that was now playing on the channel where I had recorded the NHL game.
Again, I was able to hit the return button on the remote to clear the popup. That popup came back, every 10 seconds or so. I had to repeatedly hit the return button to clear it.. over and over for the last 15 mins of the game.
Is there anyway, that anyone knows of, to stop that behavior? Can you not watch a game while it is recording? I could do that on DTV satellite all the time. I did try just about every other button on the remote with no changes.
Thanks!

Yes, you can watch a game while it's recording. If you want to start from the beginning access it from your library. You can also watch it by going to the channel in your guide but you won't be able to rewind (that's for recordings)

@Ludwick577 - The issue being raised (and it's been raised repeatedly in the past) is that there is a bug that occurs when you watch a recording while it is recording if there is an auto-extend - the DVR playback code apparently doesn't take the auto-extend into account when it determines when the recording ends.

If this bug is still present, please make sure you have the latest versions of the DTV app for FireTV and AppleTV - this was resolved back in February for FireTV and AppleTV at the beginning of March. If this is still occurring, the reps here can engage so DTV can take a look at your account/device in the backend.

For Directv Streaming, how do you extend a live event that is not one of the sports listed above? Say a smaller sport, or an awards show? Directv via Satellite allowed you to manually extend any recording.

@Llenaburg
You can't. The workaround is to set a recording for the show after the one you want to extend.

The ability to set manual recording values (like time overage) has been requested for many years for the Stream service. They have never added this, acknowledged the request, or indicated why it hasn’t been added. No one out here knows why. Without knowing some details about the DVR implementation, it’s impossible to tell how hard it would be to add - but it’s hard to believe that it would not be possible. Instead, they added “auto-extend” recording, but that only applies to some sports on some networks, and it isn’t completely reliable even for the things it does apply to.
The satellite service uses an “on-premise” DVR (a disk in the “main” satellite receiver in your house) which makes it simple to add that feature. Stream uses a cloud DVR, which means the implementation would be completely different, but it should still be possible.
