Mac OS Sonoma (Safari browser) streaming issue

When trying to watch anything on the DirectTV website using the Apple Safari browser, everything says "The content can not be played".  Tech supports answer is to use Google Chrome, which I refuse to do.  I won't install any other browser on my Mac system.  Especially since the Direct TV website says that safari after version 13 IS supported.

Has anyone else run into this?  It fails in a private mode session also.

1.  I can confirm that I had already cleared cache and cookies which didn't help.

2.  I downloaded the duckduckgo browser and it didn't work in that browser either.

3.  I broke down and installed Google Chrome and it does work there.  I immediately deleted chrome after confirming this.

4.  I have been looking at settings in safari and I have exhausted everything I know.  I even checked with Apple tech support.

I must have something to do with the video player that Direct TV is using on the website.
