Location Keeps Changing

Hello,

We have had 4 DirecTV Stream boxes in my home for over 1 year with no major issues. Then, a random issue started happening a few days ago. 2 of the boxes were showing local channels and programming for Denver, Colorado but I'm all the way in California. I did a factory reset on one box and that fixed the problem for around 24 hours, then it switched back to Denver. On the second box, we tried to reset the location only and that also seemed to work for around 24 hours.

Unfortunately, despite our troubleshooting, the boxes eventually reverted back to Denver after switching them back to the correct location.

We haven't changed our ISP, no VPN or anything like that either. Does anyone know why some of my DirecTV boxes randomly switch to Denver? Is there a permanent fix so we don't have to keep factory resetting the boxes or resetting the location?

Thanks in advance!

You might try restarting your modem and router.

Give the reps your account to check it on the back end. This I have never seen. Are there any changes at the account level?

I will try restarting our modem this evening or tomorrow when we don't need to rely on a stable internet connection. We will try the reps this weekend to have them check things. No changes were made to our account recently.

Also double checked account on website to make sure location information was not changed.

On one of the boxes before a reset I went to Settings-->System-->Device Preferences-->About-->Location Zip Code. It was displaying a zip code belonging to Denver, Colorado. After the factory reset or resetting the location only it would change the Location Zip Code back to the correct one. But it would revert back to Denver after around 24 hours.

Thank you

Another thing you can try is to set your phone as a hot spot and connect to it. That should allow your device to connect to the proper location.

Have you tried resetting your home network?

Go to Settings -- Preferences -- Location Settings - Home Location. There's an option to Set New Home Location. If you choose that, it might correct whatever location issue is happening. Should only have to reset it on one box.

The other 2 units aren't showing issues?  Are they showing the correct location?  At one point in the past they used geolocation, but I don't think they do at all anymore, and even if they did  (and it was an issue because your ISP changed your external address to one that geolocates to Colorado), it should affect all 4.

Is your home wifi a mesh system with interconnected routers? If so, one of the mesh routers may be providing the wrong location to the Stream receiver.
