I just can't do this to myself anymore
There are too many bugs. I'll just live without some channels and use something like YTTV that mostly works. It makes me sad because DTV has the right content and generally the right UI. I had hoped the number of bugs would go down, but they are going up. I use the browser version, which I suspect DTV doesn't give a crap about and that's part of it.
- I turned off autoplay. It autoplays anyway. With sound, though I said to mute on startup.
- It autoplays a random channel that may reveal the results of sporting events or, I guess, the ends of movies
- If you switch back and forth between channels, it will sometimes jump to a random point in the middle or near the end of the program, revealing results. I've had four sporting events ruined just this week.
- There are no arrow keys for forward and back. In 2024, there are no arrow keys. Amazing.
- Auto-extend a program? Sometimes! That means I had to record the next five programs after the game to make sure I saw the game.
- Disconnect randomly? Yes! Not just the Yes network, but that's one of them. ;-)
- Mute key? Nope
- Pause/play key? Nope
- I delete a recording and sometimes it gets deleted
- I look at the list of recorded programs and sometimes some of them are missing. Luckily, they come back.
There are more and I'll add them for future reference in a subsequent post.
To put it simply, nearly every time I use DTV now, I trip over some bug and the irritation has built up to the breaking point. We are all lucky to have such luxuries, but this is supposed to be for enjoyment and it is no longer such for me.

Fair enough if elsewhere is better for you. Since it is likely support can only put for canceling something simple/short, such as too many bugs in the browser version (perhaps with the biggest one listed), you might consider a BBB complaint since you are providing a rather detailed and long list of bugs and grievances on the design. That gets forwarded to the corporate level and usually results in someone contacting you within a few business days. That way you could be sure that your very in-depth feedback has a chance of going where it could be productive, as opposed to a short summary in notes or such.
This is a public forum of other customers, and though there is an official forum help team, they are supplemental to regular support. So not a guarantee your references will be reviewed by anyone who can do something (unless you are lucky to get a DM from the forum team).
With AT&T fully selling off their share of DirecTV, and DirecTV buying Dish (still shocked by that, we'll see if it doesn't get blocked by something), I suspect there are many internal changes going on and this could have a big impact on their future services and capability (really really hoping for the better and not another migration conundrum when AT&T bought DirecTV originally). Future is going to be interesting one way or another.

If you like the Directv line-up and you really do not want to switch you could always try watching it on something other than your browser. Roku devices are inexpensive and usually work much better than using a browser to watch.

Thanks Tiger. I love my arrangement as I have it. I have used the computer for watching TV for so long I can't even remember when I didn't. I will also say that I am what one calls in other domains a "power user". I skip forward dozens of times while watching a particular game. I switch between shows. The TV UI can't keep up with my needs either.
Juniper, I hadn't heard about AT&T getting out. When I heard about the purchase of Dish, part of me wondered whether that would increase quality. Probably not. I've been through mergers like this before and the first year will be spent getting the products aligned.
It is also clear that they've spent more on lawyers than software engineers (metaphorically). I work for a big evil corporation myself and they often invest in a similar fashion.
