Graying the screen upon pause/rersume and mouse movements on PC

Is there any way to stop or shorten the annoying 5-6 second screen graying (bottom 1/4 of screen) when you move the mouse/pause/resume while replaying?  Most of the time it happpens after I pause and then resume.  Then the graying occurs with info about what I am watching.  Why?  Doesn't everyone know what they are watching when they pause.

As soon as I resume, the video contines with the blackened screen.  I think this is totally unnecessary.

This is particularly annoying when watching sports because the game staus is blackened over, so if e.g you are watching basketball or football you can't see the game timer data for 5-6 seconds.
