Gifted account from different location

My children gifted me a Direct account using their credit card.

The problem is I can only watch their city’s stations.  We live in different parts of the state and I would like to be able to watch my local stations.

It is all hooked up to my AT&T Internet, so I don’t understand why I can’t get my stations.

thanks for any help

Are you a satellite subscriber or a streaming subscriber?

Steaming.  Not satellite.

That is what I don’t understand, it hooked up to my Internet why doesn’t it pick up my stations?

What device are you using to stream? Local channels are based on the CC billing address and the IP address of the device. To receive out of home locals you must have a device that has location services or GPS to know where you are located or default is the home based locals.

Do you get your locals using a phone, tablet, or PC?

You can go here to review the use of local channels and regional sports.

I'm sorry - I definitely don't know much.  I just know I have DirectTV through my internet provider (AT&T).

I get the local channels for my tablet phone because I down loaded the app to my phone.

I will just continue to deal with that I have and watch the local news on my phone.

It just doesn't make sense to me but again, I'm old and don't understand "tech" things.

You never said what device you were using, that did not get the locals. If that device does not have location services or GPS, then the service does not know where you are. Thus, you get the home base locals based on the CC billing zip code area.

If you want your local channels, then you need to have a CC billing for your area or use a device that has location services or GPS.

You get the locals on your tablet because it has location services and knows where you are located.
