Gemini last channel viewed

I have DTVstream, 3 gemini units, all has been working well overall.  Normally, I watch a channel on one unit/tv, turn it off and when I come back later, it turns on to the last station viewed on that unit.  The last couple of days, if I watch a channel on one unit, turn it off and turn on a different unit, it turns on to the channel I was watching in another room and not the last channel I watched on the unit I am using now.  Any ideas?  Not the end of the world, but I specifically watch a particular channel on the bedroom unit when I am folding laundry, etc. in that room.  The units in the living room and kitchen are varied in viewing.

Last channel is based on the account not the device since the service does not offer profiles.

I don't understand what you are referring to.  Last channel on each device has always been last channel on each device!  I watch in the kitchen, leave it on chn 9, turn it off.  watch in bedroom channel 360, turn it off,  go back in the kitchen later, turn the unit back on it would still be on channel 9, now all of a sudden, it is on 360, which is the last channel watched in the bedroom.  same issue with the 3rd unit in the lroom, it picks up the last channel watched in the bedroom, not the last channel that was watched in the lroom.  this just started the last couple of days.

The OP is correct with what they are stating. This wasn’t an issue until this most recent update that was pushed this week. We have 2 Gemini Airs and one Gemini. Up until the update that was pushed this week each of the Gemini’s stayed on whatever channel it was last on when powered off and then back on. Now, all of the Gemini’s are on whatever channel the last Gemini powered off was on.

thank you, your answer makes more sense. Not the end of the world, but a pretty stupid change on their part. I guess some genius thought it was a good idea.

Then the issue arose from the last update (assuming only the Gemini). Last channel has always been based on the user (account holder) and not the device. I do not use the Gemini. My Roku, Fire Stick, tablets, and PC's all start with the last channel watched. Since the service does not offer multiple user profiles to distinguish what is being watched by whom, then it users the account holder to determine the channel. If there has been a change, I am not aware of it.

@bcbsncjlj Correct. This was not an issue on the Gemini’s until the update this past week. We only use Gemini’s and not any of the apps. What you’re describing on the various apps or other devices was not the behavior on the Gemini devices until this week. And honestly that’s really a basic function of any sort of “cable” box. We didn’t have user profiles on UVerse or Charter/Spectrum but all of those boxes also stay on whatever the last channel the box itself was on.

@cwaffles exactly! The Gemini devices have always operated independent of each other until this last update, as dis uverse or spectrum units. Hopefully they the next update changes it back. It’s not the end of the world, just a bit annoying.

Well they always ask for feedback to make Directv the best experience it can be, sounds like the natives are beating their drums. They want the units to operate like independent units like they used to.

Now what say you ?

@Glenee especially when there was no reason to change it in the first place! The DTV satellite units were all independent of each other.

Not sure who you are asking. As far as we know, no one “useful” at DirecTV (Product Marketing or something like that) monitors the forums. DIRECTVhelp doesn’t either - they use a different system that feeds them posts that hadn’t gotten a response and they decide whether to get involved. Even if they do and claim they will forward suggestions, I have doubts.

There have been reports that Product Marketing does monitor the social media accounts (Twitter and Facebook).  I don’t know if that is true, but raising the issue there may be more helpful.

If it was my company and I read where everybody liked something better before we changed it. My first call Monday morning is to software development, to Change it back.
Easy feather for me, being the big daddy.

Maybe they will change it back. Nobody here knows.

@Glenee Like I said, I don’t think anyone “useful” will have seen that. And even if a Help rep had, I don’t believe they can just call software development.  Nor, unless it was unintentional, is it likely to be development’s call to just switch it back.

Jrandmuser I almost always agree with you and you know that, but some of the DTV Employees do monitor this forum. This is really one of the quicker ways to get to them. All the Best buddy. I do think DTV is trying to be a little more concerned about their Customers than the batch before.

It's usually means something is about to change.

I now have the answer for the last channel watched issue that has plagued me on and off for almost 2 years (I'm sure I'm not the only one.  A recent update AGAIN caused the last channel watched from the Directv stream box (Osprey) that was last on to be the same channel on any other box turned on afterwards.

I have confirmed with Directv tech support that the last channel watched is in fact box specific when using the Directv Stream box.  It don't know if this is true if you use another streaming device.

Things tried that didn't fix it.  DTV refreshed my account.  I restarted each box in multiple ways.  I unplugged power on each box, used restart option in the system setup, did a soft boot (red button for 5 seconds).

I can confirm that what did fix the last channel watched issue is a "hard boot".  This is pressing the red button (with tv on) for 30 seconds until "reset device" displays on the tv.  You will have to connect to your wifi and pair your remote again.  And IF your remote will control your tv you'll have to do that too (it's hit or miss if your tv can be controlled by the remote).  I have tested it multiple times today by turning each box on and off multiple times with different channels on each box.

I'm happy to know what to do now when the next update is pushed out and it breaks this functionality.  I hope this helps someone else.
