Fast forward needs major upgrade
The FF is terrible. I use it almost exclusively in my new Sony TV on already recorded shows, esp sports. It will usually go 15 seconds at a click, so working through a 3 minute or longer break takes forever. If you hold the FF down, it stalls, then may move 5 or 6 minutes up in the recording, then inexplicably return. This is terrifically frustrating. I left Cox for Direct TV. DTV is ahead in most areas, but Cox certainly knew how a FF should work. I am even more frustrated when I see the long history (years) of folks complaining about this, and clearly the problem persists.

Get a Dtv Stream box. They are 49.99 refurbished with 1 yr warranty. Fast forward and rewind work better vs the apps.

Are you using an app or the DirecTV box? If app, what device is the app in or is it a Sony TV app?

I am not using an app or the DirectTV box. I am using the Sony remote that came with my TV.

You must be using an App for the DirecTV Stream service. Perhaps it's the Sony DirecTV Stream App?

I have a Sony TV and have given up on using the DirecTV app, that is built into the TV. It is slow compared to the DirecTV Stream box, Roku or Fire Stick.
You can get it to move at increments other than 15 seconds by using a combination of the left and right arrows, and the Fast Forward and Reverse buttons on each side of the play button. It is kind of tricky and due to the remote being so slow, it gets frustrating.
I would suggest investing in a DirecTV Stream box, Roku, Fire Stick, or other device that carries the app.

I must be using the Direct Stream TV app associated with the TV.
I appreciate the suggestions re investing in more devices for an improved FF experience. Doesn't seem like I should have to do that, esp for the price of Direct Stream TV.

Having all different devices, including the built in Sony app, I would have to say the problem with that app is more of a Sony TV issue, as it works fine on my other devices. I also have the DirecTV Stream app built into my Samsung TV, and it also has issues that the other devices don't. I have devices on both of those TVs.

The apps on the different devices have different behaviors and performance, partially due to hardware and platform software differences, but I'd assume partially due to the fact that different engineers design and implement the different apps, and there doesn't appear to be great overall coordination. In the case of the app on Sony, I don't know what hardware (processor, RAM, etc.) it provides, but I'd assume it is fine. So the core functionality should be fine, as it should be using the same core app as is used on the DTV stream device (since both Sony and the DTV streamer run Android TV). However, the control aspects are obviously going to be somewhat different due to the distinct hardware, and it could be that the Sony support for their remote is a problem. But that seems very unlikely - much more likely is that the DTV support for that remote - probably meaning support for a "generic" Android TV controller - and specifically for the "real-time" type controls like FF and Rew isn't as good as it could be. Hopefully that will improve over time. As I've said about DTV's Samsung app and its reported problems, the same is true for Android TV - either they need to address the problems or they need to drop the claim of support for that platform. Having a version of the app with on-going serious problems doesn't help anyone - it irritates the users and negatively impacts the product's reputation. Obviously, of those 2 choices, addressing the issues is preferable, but in the case of Samsung, this has been going on a long time.

Agreed that this needs to be fixed on the Google TV app.
The end user experience is horrible.
It's the same problem with Google Chromecast 4K w/ Google TV.
If you get the Roku 4K streaming stick, it does not have this problem.
That will give you the option to FF or Rewind up to 4x speed in either direction with a preview so you can see where you're at in the recording.
It's not a hardware limitation, other providers such as Fubo, YoutubeTV don't have this problem on the same device.
I prefer to have the Chromecast with Google TV device on my main TV hooked up to my surround sound system, I like to stream concerts on Nugs.net, nugs doesn't have a native app but it works great to use the chromecast function of their android app.

Has anyone seen any of these needed improvements occur yet? I need a reliable fast forward and fast rewind where I can SEE what I am speeding past, and also be able to jump ahead if I want in 30-minute increments, satellite still has these wonderful features, so for now, turning down a decent offer to convert over to Stream, I will wait for an improvement to happen. Let's get on it! I really hesitate to go to Utoob because I want my REELZ and MeTV which they do NOT have
