Two price increases this year.   Choice went from $89 last year to $109, about a 20 percent increase.   This is unsustainable.    Is there a DIRECTV Stream xtra (unadvertised) at a lower price without the RSNs?

This is still cheaper for me vs Mediacom cable.

I would like to see DirecTV Stream come out with plans, minus the local stations, as an option. Many of us can get them with an OTA antenna. Plus get many more channels. On DirecTV Stream I get 11 channels under 100, with my OTA antenna I get around 80 channels.

If ESPN goes independent streaming all cable/streaming services may be in a little trouble. The reason I say this is you get your Locals over antenna and use a Tivo bought off ebay with all in package. Then get a ESPN and ESPN+ package foe $15. The get a Philo subscription for $25.00 your almost there for $40.00.

Then all you have to do is download a few apps to a apple tv or fire stick.

I'm just saying.

Glenee, you also have to add your local sports network, if you want to watch your local teams, as when they are on ESPN they will be blacked out, unless ESPN has national rights for the event.

I only have a couple weeks a year that is the case. Most are on Local, ESPN, or available via another free streaming app. I am not here to start a thread. It's just That the price structure is not the same as it was in the 80'-2000's. Where Satellite, Cable,  or some local over the air delivery systems was the only way to get ESPN, NFL ST, and others, it was a monopoly. Now it isn't.These Corporations can no longer pick a number out of the air that fits their budget and make the people make it work.

@Juniper According to Directv both Streaming and Sat services are going to be receiving a rate increase as of Nov. 5th.  Then most likely we will get another increase in January.  As it is this will be our second price increase this year.

Yes, I think that is a little soon but my phone don't ring for advice, the old double whammy. What I am talking about is these Services, Suppliers, Streamers, and /or Providers what ever they call themselves this week. They all need to take a real hard look at the dynamics of the business and the next generations coming if they want to stay in business for the long haul. Example: Tv Viewing entertainment, Jewelry, Big Houses, Most Sports, Fashion. All the things that were Big Money Generators won't be in the next 50 years. The Tide is Changing. I am retired and even I can see that.

Has anyone had any success getting a lower rate with the retention department?  I have a grandfathered 'go big' account and struck out with the retention group.  Not willing to help in anyway.

I have been a Directv customer since it was Primestar. Finally after many years, I "cut the cord" and dropped Directv satellite TV. The streaming service offered the same channels for a more attractive price, so I went with the Directv Stream. However they have done 2 price increases lately and it's the same reason we dropped their satellite service. The next price increase will be it for me. There are many other options out there that don't raise their rates as often as Directv. Directv was fantastic until AT&T took over.

teknoge3k, almost every provider does at least an annual price increase. They have to, as networks demand more money everytime their contracts are up for renewal.

I will tell you that this increase is getting more talk on other Forums  than the previous ones. So it is getting noticed. A lot of talk about going to  youtube TV.

My bill with Mediacom went up every year by 20 bucks. To the point I was going to have to pay around 260. That's why I decided to switch to Dtv Stream
