Direct Tv stream & recordings not able to stream to TV

We have DirecTV streaming but we are unable to stream our library recordings from our phone to our TV. If we have the DirecTV streaming box would it allow us to stream our library recordings to our TV to watch? Currently we are using a Chromecast to stream to the TV and it works well except it will not stream our recordings to the TV.

You cannot stream recordings from your phone to tv/chromecast. They don't allow it. You can only stream live tv.

You don't rent the DTV device - you buy it (you can buy on time at $5/month or pay outright $120, or perhaps get a refurb at $50).

That said, being unable to stream DVR recordings from a mobile device to a TV via Chromecast has been an issue from the start.  They have on and off indicated that they are working on it, but it appears that the capabilities of the Chromecast don't mesh with the mechanisms they need to stream DVR content, though it isn't clear what those mechanisms are.

However, they now have a native Android TV (Google TV) app that would work on the Chromecast with Google TV device (whose name probably should be the other way around).

Hey @Robnbecky4, we are here to answer all your questions about our services.

To access your recordings, you need to have the DIRECTV STREAM app directly downloaded in the device you want to watch this content. Chromecast is currently available for the tv only

Let us know if you need further assistance, we'll be here for you.

@Robnbecky4 no problem, let me help clear things up.

Since Chromecast works for live TV only, if you're not allowed to download our app directly in your TV, you need to get an external device to access all your DIRECTV STREAM content from there.

Our DIRECTV STREAM device is a great option, in that way you'll get the best of our streaming experience. There are also other compatible devices that you can consider.

If you want to order a new DIRECTV STREAM device, please let us know and we'll give you a hand with that.

If you want to watch your recordings on your tv just get the Dtv Stream box, firestick, roku, or apple tv. Use those devices to watch your shows.

Just discovered the same thing during the trial. So now can’t watch my recording on my tv using chrome cast and can’t download to the pad for access when without wifi. Glad I didn’t switch to this service. Basicly worthless

We now have the DirecTV streaming box It makes it much more easier watching TV and recordings.   We also have a real remote.  We're also able to stream from our phone recordings and live TV anywhere we're very happy with the service

No benefit over my current service. I can already stream on phone, pad. I can also download recorded shows. I can watch everything with a box, and without the delay. So why would I go to a service that adds no benefit and takes some away, along with the requirement to replace boxes with new boxes?

@Erica1 Why would you change if your current provider is fine? I agree. However this has no relation to the main post..

Because direct tv keeps trying to move me and says they are eliminating their traditional device. It does have to do with the origional post, since that is one of the issues I couldn’t believe that streaming didn’t allow me to stream!

NOT being able to cast recordings from my phone/device is a show stopper for me.  I'd love to move away from the traditional satellite but without this feature it's a no go for me.

Does anyone know if the Chromecast device (latest generation with the remote) has an app that allows me to stream recordings? I use this device for all my TVs.  I am not renting the DTV device when I have a nice Chromecast that supports all my other streaming services with a shared library across them all.

So we are new to Direct TV stream we got the app downloaded on our Sony TV and need to figure out how to maneuver the remote. Over the phone I was told you need at least one box in your house. We have 3 TV's 2 have Roku but we're coming from Tivo and their remotes and I want my own remote and don't want to use the Roku one or the Sony TV one.  I was told a new box is $120 and they will add on 10 bucks a month for 12 months or I can buy used ones for 49.99 I figured I would rather pay $150 for 3 used ones than $120 for 1 new one should I do that?

We are only on the 5 day trial and started it late last night. I like it ok so far but have some other questions which aren't related to this thread so I'll ask elsewhere but I think once I have the box and remote I will like it much better.

What is the value of a streaming service that requires separate boxes on all TVs. It is a crazy service!
