Cloud DVR keeps deleting recorded programs
I've only had this thing a month and I'm already sick of hearing about it. I don't watch TV. My mom moved in with us so I got it, and it's constantly deleting programs. At first I thought she'd just hit the 20 hour limit, but then I paid the extra and got unlimited DVR. It's still happening.
Additionally, she's always complaining that setting the DVR to record only new programs in a series doesn't work. It records all episodes no matter how she sets it.
I'm wondering if these are normal problems, or maybe it's something unique to us or this account or whatever. I'm already ready to take that little box and chuck into the river.

No, that's not typically normal. Have you verified the status of unlimited DVR online and are you sure your mother isn't accidentally pressing the wrong button on the remote to delete programs on accident? I did hear about a similar scenario from another poster a few days ago about the recordings disappearing, so perhaps it is a small bug going around.
If the series recording does not work, I would double check the settings as well as the channel that the series recording was set to.
You may try calling DIRECTV STREAM (number in my greeting below) and reporting this to them. Although it may be linked to your specific system, I have enough info to believe that it could potentially be a small bug with the DIRECTV STREAM Osprey boxes.

Yes, the unlimited DVR took effect almost immediately, and there isn't 20 hours of content on there at the moment anyhow.
I'm pretty sure she's not pressing the wrong button. It asks for confirmation when something is deleted, I believe.
Like I said, I don't watch a lot of TV so I don't know any shows that are airing both new episodes and reruns. I can't test that feature, but she was a whiz on the old DVR before we switched to this thing.
For now I've switched the box from her room and put it in my office so I can check it out, but it's hard for me to believe that a box could cause these issues. Everything should be in the cloud. The box shouldn't delete shows by itself and stuff like that. She also says she sometimes can't delete shows. She deletes them but they stick around.
I don't know. I just wish I didn't have to deal with this, as if life isn't full of annoyances already.
Thanks for your reply, though.

I am so frustrated! We have only had Stream for a couple of weeks. We have a number of series recordings set and last night we watched the first 4 episodes, planning to watch more tonight. Imagine our surprise when turned on the TV and looked for our recordings, only to see that episode 5 thru 9 are GONE! This happened as well to a different season of the same show. This isn't good!! We did not delete these shows and have unlimited DVR access. Why is this happening!? I tried to look online but all of the links have 404 error codes!!

Also, can someone please tell me how to do 2 things. 1) record only NEW episodes. This isn't an option when I add something to my recording list. 2) I do not have a "heart" anywhere to add something to Favorites--why, and how do I get this?
Thanks!

@levins56 What device(s) are you using to stream your Directv Stream?

It is ridiculous!!! We are using the Directv boxes that we got when we signed up. It is unbelievable to me that the following happened in the past 2 days.
1) Same series-we watched a few episodes last night but did not delete them thinking maybe that was why the other episodes had disappeared...but, today when we went to watch another episode, ALL of the shows we watched were deleted!! AND..for the following season, a few of the first episodes weren't there!
2) We recorded a brand new series and when we went to watch it for the first time, it started with episode 3! the first 2 episodes weren't even there!
It is not OK to pay good money for something that should work. We can't get "favorites" to work (no "heart"), we can't record something that actually ends up in our recordings, I can't find a way to record only new episodes, and we can't extend races or sports shows so we end up missing the end! I got a new box when we had issues with connecting to our receiver (also doesn't allow for us to change volume with the remote.
Lastly, when I called and they escalated our issues, I was offered a refund due to the problems, but the email I got with the amount was different than what I was told it would be. I left something that worked for this, to save a few bucks and now I wonder what I got myself into!!

@levins56 try doing a red button reset on the side of your box hold the red button for 20 seconds if that does not clear up your issues then they will need to replace your box for free because it would be an issue with the box itself. Because I have the same DirecTV streaming boxes as you and I can favorite and record new programs and none of my shows delete themselves without being deleted by me!

Recordings are in the cloud. Someone either doesn't know how to use the service or someone is deleting shows by accident. Those are the 2 scenarios. I've had this service for almost a year --with the box---and have never seen a recording deleted---other than the ones I deleted.

I have been in technology for my entire career!! I am not an (Edited per community guidelines) and know I did not delete anything or I would not have posted what I did. I do know about the cloud and how to use the service. I’m happy you haven’t had any issues but mine continue every day since I’ve had this service. There is another scenario - it’s broken!!

Tiger593- I did already hit the red reset button while on the phone for an hour with a guy trying to get the box to connect thru my stereo receiver which also didn't work. They sent me a new box but it is such a pain trying to re-add all of the DVR stuff etc, I have delayed in replacing the first one. Now that the other problems are happening I will replace it today. I expect I will lose the things I currently have recorded, or is it possible they are "saved" associated with my cloud account? thanks!

@levins56 Anything you have set to record should be saved but as you are having such an issue with the box that you currently have when you get your new one set up I would check to make sure that what you have set to record is still there and any recorded shows should also still be there sense they are not saved on the box itself. I hope that replacing the box fixes all your issues and I agree with you that there is definitely something wrong with your box! But you are not the only person who has had this issue I have seen a couple of people complaining of the same issues as you so maybe Directv had a bad batch of Boxes or something.

Thanks for your kind reply! It was easy to install the new box and everything is still there! Whew!! I know I am capable of deleting (and not deleting) programs so I really do think it was the box (Iets hope!!)
Thanks again!!

I have DirecTV on my fire stick and I'm having the same problem. I have unlimited DVR and it says it keeps recordings for 9mos but it keeps deleting episodes that aren't even 2mos old. Why the f*** is this happening & how can it be fixed?? Ughhh...

I found the answer. Customers with Unlimited Cloud DVR storage are allowed a maximum of 30 episodes per TV series. Once the maximum episode limit is met, the oldest recorded episode will be automatically deleted first (within 9 months or less) to make room for the next recorded episode. This is probably why nobody has posted for 2 years *blink*
