Casting or Mirroring iPhone to Directv
Does Directv support mirroring or casting from an iPhone to a Directv Streaming box? I’m pretty sure I got that to work at one time but I can’t remember how I did it.
On my iPhone, when I attempt to do mirroring, the iPhone shows devices on
my network that I can mirror to but none of my Directv boxes show up as a choice.
When I’m watching a video on my iPhone and I try to cast it to another device, none of my Directv boxes show up as a choice.
is it possible to get either mirroring or casting to work? If so, how do you do it?

You mirror to the TV, not the DIRECTV STREAM box.

Thanks. I know that I can mirror directly to a TV that supports mirroring, but I thought that I could do it through the Directv box. I think I was able to somehow do that in the past, but I can’t remember how I did it.
I read another post on this forum that said the Directv box supports casting but not mirroring. Does the Directv box provide any support for either mirroring or casting?

No, you cannot mirror your iPhone screen directly to the DIRECTV STREAM box (at least without sideloading a mirroring application). There is no advantage to trying to mirror with the box instead of the physical smart TV.

Since the end result is to view on the TV, there doesn't seem to be a point to streaming to the DIRECTV STREAM box.
Now that box does allow you to download some other apps to it. So if you are using a streaming app (that is not DirecTV) than perhaps you can download it onto the STREAM box as well. Would save battery life and not worry about any connection issues.

The value of mirroring or casting to the Drirectv streaming box is:
1. It would provide a consistent interface across a number of different TV’s that I have (some Samsung, some Sony; some relatively new, some older)
2. A number of the TV’s that I have don’t support mirroring or casting at all
My wife does exercise videos on her iPad and I’ve rigged up a USB-C to HDMI cable to connect her iPad to an older TV that doesn’t support mirroring or casting for that. That works fine, but it would be nice to do it wirelessly without requiring a cable.

I had the same issue — my DirecTV box didn’t show up for mirroring either. I ended up using DoCast from my iPhone; it let me mirror to other devices on my network even when AirPlay wasn’t an option. Might be worth trying as a workaround.
