Auto Extend not working
I was so excited yesterday to see the Auto Extend feature show up. Whelp, it failed right out of the gate. I recorded the Denver Nuggets vs Golden State Warriors first playoff game tonight, Saturday 4/6 on ABC. The recording had that new green "+ Auto Extend" flag on it. And yet, with 5 minutes left in the game, the recording just stopped. Just in case there was something with the app on my TV, I logged in on my laptop. Same thing.
What gives?

It's a new feature. It's not foolproof. Best bet is to always schedule to record the following program, too.

Also, it doesn't matter which device you use----the recordings are in the cloud, so its the same across platforms. Maybe their is an issue with NBA games b/c St Louis Cardinal games have all been extended for me.

Same problem again last night. I recorded game 3 of the Warriors vs. Nuggets playoff series. If I had not set Inside the NBA to record, I would have missed the last 5 minutes of the game.
Just like everyone else, I have been waiting (impatiently) for Directv to add an auto-extend feature and was very excited to see it added. However, the disappointment of having it added but not actually work is even more frustrating than not having it at all.

So frustrated! Watching Mariners game and it auto-extended only 37 minutes. It's now 77 minutes past the scheduled end and the game just ended. I missed the final 40 minutes!

Yes, it just does not cut it. DTV is relying on some third party to provide the signal that drives the extension and it is not clear where the problem lies.
The simple fix is just to allow us to manually pad recordings that we know are prone to going past the scheduled time, ala DirectTV Satellite.

I've never had an issue with Stl Cardinal games. They always get extended the exact amount of time. Their games started extending last September.

This has happened to us for the last 2 Nuggets/Warriors playoffs games. It always worked flawlessly in the past. So frustrating.

Same thing happened on the Indycar race today. Recording end with 3 laps left in the race

It ended with 1 lap left in the NASCAR Darlington race on Sunday! Really bad timing especially with what happened with 2 laps left.

I will add my .02 cents. The end of today's exciting Colorado U vs TCU football game was cut off with over 3 min remaining. Frustrating with football season just starting! Suggestion, why not let us manually add time like big-brother Directv does and forget this "automatic" stuff that might or might not work? Then it will be OUR fault if we miss the end of a game.

@JerHunter Here to make the exact same complaint. Why do I record and watch a game for a couple of hours to miss the last 4 minutes... Unbelievable... I could always manually extend recordings with my TiVo... I switch to DirecTV and I feel like I am moving backwards...

DTV (satellite) and TiVo use "on premise" DVRs - there's a disc (or equivalent) in a box in your house, and the recording is yours alone. That makes it pretty easy to provide the user a way to extend the recording. DTV Stream uses a cloud DVR (of necessity, since none of the streaming devices have large amounts of storage), and - depending on how they implemented the DVR - it could be (very) difficult to allow individual users to manually set recording limits. That may be why they put in the auto-extend - it would apply to everyone. That's not an excuse, however. The auto-extend - even if it always worked reliably - doesn't solve all the needs, and it obviously doesn't always work reliably. So they really need to figure out a way to provide the manual extend (which has been requested for about 6 years now).

Jrandomuser, I would be less upset if they just did not offer the "auto-extend" and therefore I would just automatically record the program following a live sporting event. The fact that I get suckered in to using a feature that is so iffy makes me want to go to a product that is more reliable. Stupid on their part to put out a product that would so alienate their customers.
