Are you still watching message on DirecTV Roku app Manual Record question

Hi,

I am a DirecTV satellite customer have been for almost 21 years as I write this. I have been using the DirecTV app to watch my content including DVR with an eye towards possibly switching to DirecTV streaming during the year. One thing I have noticed seeing as I usually use Roku is after about four hours either watching live TV via the app or a recording, i will get the are you still watching message that pops up and halts whatever I'm watching. This is an annoying thing that I have not been able to find a way either on my TV or on my other streaming devices to be able to disable.

I am strongly considering transferring to the streaming version at some point during the year, but I have no interest in dealing with this error message every four hours if I do and I also would prefer to keep using the equipment that I am using as opposed yo leasing one from DirecTV.

I would also like to know if there is a way to set up manuel recordings via the app and if the pay-per-view channels will be available on the app.

Thank you for your time.

We appreciate your loyalty for 21 years. Please navigate to "Settings" and select "System." Choose "Power" and then "Auto Power Savings." Disable the "Auto Power Off" option. By following these steps, you should be able to prevent the "Are you still watching?" prompt from appearing and stop your TV from automatically shutting off. Hi, I've tried that, but there is nothing on the DirecTV app on Roku for that. I spent two hours trying to find it and the only thing I was able to find was disable notifications within the app.

Hi @Bvd1022. We understand how you don't want any on-screen messages while watching TV. Just to clarify, the 'Are you still watching?' message can only be seen on downloadable apps, such as the DIRECTV app after 4 hours of inactivity. We currently don't have a way to remove this feature, and Power Saving feature doesn't apply on the app as this can only be done on your Genie equipment.

To answer your other questions, renting Pay-Per-View is currently not available through the app. You can also set your DVR to record programs using the app. Here's how: Record DIRECTV content | DIRECTV Customer Service & Support

We do value your feedback and will forward this to our team, so they can review and determine the next steps. Let us know if you need further assistance. Kesiah, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Pretty ridiculous to not disclose this when people purchase the app, and charge full price when we can only watch a few hours at a time before it shuts off!

The power saving function is not within the app. It's in the Roku setting for the device.

Nope it’s on the app - I’m only using the app on both of my TVs.

It's on my device.

How do I stop my Roku from going to sleep?
You can use the following steps to disable auto power savings.
  1. Press Home on your Roku remote.
  2. Scroll and select Settings.
  3. Select System.
  4. Select Power.
  5. Select Auto power savings.
  6. Uncheck the box next to After 20 minutes of no interaction.

I'll probably be switching to streaming within the next year. I'm waiting for the baseball package I pay for every year to show on my account so I can cancel it because I've already made the decision to move that to streaming this year as I'm already paying $260 per month and that's with a discount due to the recent Tegna dispute. Otherwise its over $300 and that's without the baseball package and the pay-per-view cards I cover as a Boxing writer.

I really have no desire to leave DirecTV after almost 22 years, but if Boxing is pretty much streaming exclusive, the regional sports metworks are either going out of business or moving to streaming, the movie channels are now basically app based, and there's no guarantee that these carriage disputes won't keep happening, I do wonder what I'll be paying for at that point. It also isn't a good look for DirecTV that even though they are slowly moving away from satellite to streaming based that the only way to get rid of a are you still watching message on the app is to buy a DirecTV branded streaming device when the app is available on just about every platform/device currently on the market. People shouldn't have to pay for a device simply to get rid of a message that shouldn't pop up to begin with.

As for me, I'm still waiting to make the decision on when it's time to move to DirecTV's streaming version or via internet as one DirecTV staffer told me, but the experience should mirror exactly what one would get via satellite including no messages when watching a channel or recording for more than four hours. Pay-Per-View functionality, being able to set manual recordings, and being able to delete recordings within the app if you are a satellite subscriber should be included. Speaking from personal experience, I live in a state where it rains regularly, I have found myself using the app, more and more during storms and even used it in a hotel when I had to evacuate due to a hurricane last year. Though it would be nice if every channel were available, like with satellite, not being able to delete recordings within the app is a bit annoying.

While I have no desire to leave DirecTV, it would be nice if I didn't have to buy a device, when I already have several, just to be able to not deal with a message that shouldn't be displaying to begin with, it would also be nice if I had everything I'm currently paying for, just without the satellite dish including the aforementioned features and functionality. Otherwise I might have to consider other options. I have no desire to do that, but I do question what I would be paying for not only if the disputes keep happening, not only if most of what I'm paying for is moving to streaming or slowly being discontinued, but if I have to buy more devices or lease them from DirecTV just to be able to watch TV uninterrupted. Questions DirecTV should answer and not just for new customers, but for those of us who have been customers for decades. If I could also get the baseball package through the DirecTV app, I might not be going to MLB directly this year. If the goal for DirecTV is to transition everyone to streaming and continue operating well into the future far beyond the cable/satellite era, the experience should mirror exactly what a satellite subscriber gets currently in full.

It’s seriously ridiculous! When I called them they acted like they didn’t know about it!!! I’m switching back to Hulu live. It (Edited per community guidelines) to lose the sports channels but waking up in the middle of the night because it shuts off is irritating.

Directions to shutoff the message on Roku are totally ineffective, you should stop your technical support people from suggesting it. The message is annoying and needs to be able to be shut off at least by within the Directv Steaming app.
