Apple TV audio from Stream app is much lower volume

I have an AppleTv, latest model, 4K.  It is direct connected via HDMI to my Lg SN10 sound bar which has multiple hdmi inputs.  That sound bar is connected to my LG 75inch nano90.  The cable is eArc and the Lg tv is toggled for eArc.  The Lg tv is set to input from the LG sound bar HDMI 1. It is set to bitstream input and the output is pass through.

Tested AppleTv apps like Max, Netflix and Amazon all play audio at the same levels.  The LG soundbar has an LED screen that says Dolby ATMOs on it when I switch to one of those apps and play content that is Dolby enabled. I mention this simply to confirm the eArc and pass through seems to work fine allowing the Lg sound bar to dictate the settings it will pass out.

When I use the DirectTv Stream app the audio, at the same audio level in all tests, of 11, is very quiet and voice dialog not easy to hear when sitting in a normal position.  That is the same regardless if watching a modern broadcast like the NFL or old tv shows on channels like MeTv.

For comparison I am watching similar old Tv content in the Pluto TV app and the audio level at 11 is a consistent easy to hear volume, so this is not a factor of the content you are streaming.

I can supply a video if you would like of me standing at the same distance from the TV and switching between the “apps” in the AppleTv.

Thanks for the information provided. We want you to have excellent audio quality while using the DIRECTV STREAM App. On your Apple TV, go to Settings, then select Audio & Video. Ensure that Audio Out is set to Apple TV, Sound Effects and Music are on, and Best Quality Available is selected in Surround Sound settings. We're sending you a PM to further assist you. Apple TV is not a option in newer models for audio out.

so I don’t know what is being referred to as Audio Out here?  I am using the DirectTv Stream app on an AppleTv 4k hardware box.  The audio out is set on the AppleTv Settings to a singular setting that should work for all the apps on the AppleTv.  In my case it shows the LG soundbar which it is connect directly to and it says Dolby ATMOs immersive capable.

i have seen posts on Reddit saying direct TV is doing some sort of proprietary format - see below

“DTV Stream sends stereo audio in a format where the stereo audio is sent as 5.1 audio, only with 3 of the 5 audio channels are muted. Since most all sound bars and audio receivers can’t deal with this weird format, the audio level is very low, and it’s also difficult to make out speech, since the center channel is muted for stereo audio.”   Even the Pluto TV app with old shows sounds way better using all the speakers on the soundbar - an identical old timey western on Pluto sounds loud at 11 volume vs the voices being low and muddled on the DirectTv Stream app for the same old episodes of Rifleman - same exact espisode.

This setting defines where all sound from your Apple TV is routed. Please check your private messages to continue assisting you. Christian, DIRECTV Community Specialist
