8003 error

I recently changed internet providers and am using a new router, but continue to use the same EERO boxes I used with my previous provider.  I switched from Mediacom cable internet to Optic Communications fiber optic internet.  Ever since the switch, my Directv Stream service is not working.  When I log in on any of my devices(I use fire tv and my iPad), I get the 8003 error: Looks like something went wrong.  Give it a  try again later.  I have deleted and reinstalled the app multiple times, changed my password, nothing has fixed the problem. I spoke with Directv support and they are no help, “just escalated my issue” which means they will do nothing.  All my other apps work fine, so I know this is a Directv issue.

We're sorry to know you've been facing errors with the DIRECTV App. When you first set up DIRECTV STREAM in your home, you set the home network for connecting devices. Since you changed your internet provider, it's necessary to update your DIRECTV STREAM home network, using any connected TV device:

1. Go to the DIRECTV app.
2. Choose Settings and then Preferences.
3. Select Location Settings and then Set New Home Location.
4. Choose your new location.

You can only do it 4 times in a 12-month period.  See more here: https://www.directv.com/support/stream/article/000082029. If further support is needed, DIRECTV is a PM away. Jhon, DIRECTV Community Specialist

I can’t update the home location because I can’t sign in, whenever I attempt to sign in I get the 8003 error.

Have you tried using just the router without the EERO box? Just to troubleshoot. Which device are you using with the app?

Yes I have tried using just the router, same issue.  I am using my iPad and Toshiba fire TV’s.  I still have my old internet service active for a couple more days and it works fine on the old service,  not sure if there is some setting on my new router/service I need to change?

Well, it obviously has something to do with your new internet and the IP address change. On your Firetv. Can you go to the apps area---Directv stream app and clear cache/data? Also, unplug the tv for a minute or so--that usually does a reset on most tvs. I'd also restart the modem/router/EERO

Did all that, same issue.  Going to have to switch tv services if I can’t get this resolved

When changing your Internet provider, you should perform the following steps.

Basic Steps

1. Connect your new router directly to the main gateway Eero.

2. Reboot your main Eero gateway. (Physically unplug the power)

3. Power off/on any switches on your network.

4. Power off/on any subsequent Eero devices on your network.
5. Reboot your DirecTV Streaming device.

Advanced Steps

It is recommended that the new router be placed in "Bridged" mode (or equivalent) when connecting to the Eero gateway. This will require a bit of assistance if your not a techy type.

I had the same code/issue. I have a VPN and it was set to Canada (I'm in the US). I turned off my VPN and it worked. I set my VPN to my home market and it worked.

Just a note - using a VPN to conceal your true location would be a violation of the DirecTV Stream service agreement. I am not sure that it's actually illegal, but if DirecTV Stream detects it, they may terminate your service.

Just switched internet providers as well to optic fiber and now can’t use my Direct Tv App on any device. I called the provider which is Surf Internet they stated they purchased IP addresses from Canada and now they have to wait for the Government to fix the issue. I was told that they can’t do anything nor can the streaming services that we can no longer use. To say the least I am very unhappy doing the switch at this moment.

DTV is not allowed to stream outside of the US, Porto Rico and the US Virgin Islands so not sure what the Government can do if they are using Canadian IP addresses.

Yes, if the provider uses Canadian IP adresses, then Directv (and many other services) believes you are located in Canada and Directv can't deliver to Canada. Period. You need to change your internet provider.
