4k Directv stream on roku
I was told by DIRECTV today that in order to stream DIRECTV 4k channels via Roku I would either have to sign up for DIRECTV stream or have DIRECTV come out and convert my satellite boxes to 4k. This seems dumb. Why would they waste money on converting my equipment to 4k when I am willing to keep current receivers and stream 4k saving them $$$. Is this true

We appreciate your interest in 4K content, @Hinton8. Installing a 4K Genie Mini is required to get access to 4K programming on your DIRECTV via Satellite account. Once professionally installed and activated, the account will be authorized for 4K DIRECTV service. We'll send you a PM to verify the available options on your account. You did not read my question. I want to keep my hr54 and just stream 4k channels 104-106 via DIRECTV stream using my Roku box signing into my direct tv account

That’s not the service they offer. If you subscribe to satellite service, you get satellite service. If you subscribe to streaming service, you get streaming service. You don’t get to mix and match.

I'm in the same camp. I have satellite only with Premier service (no Genie receivers). according to my account details I should have 4K streaming service, but I'm guessing I actually don't because none of the 4k channels (104-107) currently show up on my Direct Stream guide.
When I first installed the Direct Stream app on my 4k TV's via an Amazon Fire Stick 4k, channels 104-107 did show up, but after 2-3 days they disappeared. I'm guessing the billing system finally talked to the guide service and removed the channels. :(
Does seem a bit weird, if one can't mix and match, why should I be able to use the Direct Stream service at all?
