Unlimited Cloud DVR - Now Included with all plans

So I am a new customer to DirecTV Stream - signed up on 1-15-22. I signed up paying the extra $10/month for unlimited Cloud DVR. Now they are including it with all packages - for BRAND NEW customers who sign up ONLINE ONLY. I called to see if they would change my account to include the Unlimited Cloud DVR since I have been a customer less than TWO WEEKS. Nope, sorry, can't do that.

I think that is a pretty lousy business practice - and one of the same reasons why I finally abandoned my local cable company after 17 years. So, I signed up at $84.99/month on 1-15-22 knowing full well the price was increasing to $89.99/month effective 1-23-22 - and I was OK with that. But to not include the Unlimited Cloud DVR because I missed this promotion by 8 days really ticks me off.  Since I still have my local cable company's equipment, I think I will just stick with them and let AT&T keep their DirecTV Stream.

Crappy way to do business AT&T - which is why I left you years ago for my local cable company. I see your business practices have not changed.

Just cancel and use another email account.

There's no cancellation penalty unless you're paying $5/mo for the Stream boxes. So, as suggested, you can cancel this account and create a new one with a different email address.

I agree that this is a stupid DirecTV decision. I'm in the same boat. I just subscribed in December. If they don't change this policy then I, too, will cancel and subscribe under a different account.

Cancelling and using a different e-mail address was my first thought. I spoke with the manager of the local AT&T store where I originally signed up and he said that would not work because it is based on service address not e-mail address. And, I do have a DTV Stream box with the $5/month "rental" charge.

@DIRECTVhelp

Angela,

Please let us know if recent subscribers can, indeed, get the new free unlimited DVR.

When you signed up they didn't have the promotion. It started around 6 days ago.

Same here! Directv satellite customers over 20 years. Switched to stream and was told the offer doesn’t apply to Directv satellite customers switching to Directv Stream. So much for loyalty…..

Thats a new one to me. Never heard anyone mentioned previous DirecTV subscribers were not elgible. Always been new DirecTV Stream customers only. Seems old sine the 2 services are totally different and not related. Are you sure they understood you were a new subscriber? How did they know you were a DirecTV subscriber?

If you sign up with a different email address then they won't know if you were a previous subscriber. Of course, if you call them and ask to switch from satellite to DirecTV Stream, then they'll know.

@ToledoFoodie The $5.00 monthly fee is not a rental charge, it is a monthly payment toward the full cost of $120.00 for a DirecTV Stream box, which is paid off in 24 months.

Yeah… I just signed up about a week ago, and they never told me I’d be buying a box for the non-smart TV, or that I’d owe them the price of it if I changed my mind about needing it after only 14 days... they only mention the monthly price.

And I’d need to install it myself. And if I decide not to use their box… they don’t provide much info about hooking up and using their streaming service that way either!!!

Plus, their “unlimited” cloud recording is deceptive too…

Sure you can put as much on it as you like, but things in the cloud will get deleted automatically after only 3 months. (Prior to  DirectTV, I sometimes recorded things to share with my husband who works on cargo ships… and is sometimes gone for months at a time.)

I am seriously considering cancelling their service before it is too late!

I requested that as an existing customer I wanted unlimited cloud dvr service added to my package at no charge since new subscribers were getting the deal. The rep I chatted with said she requested the "back office" to make the request but it is not showing up on my account online yet. Can someone help me please?

Don't count on it happening. Expect to pay the $10 if you want it. The best option is to cancel and sign up again with another email account.

I spoke with a rep today and after checking he stated I was eligible for the promotion and told me he added it to my account. I checked my account online and it is showing CDVR as included in my package. Later, I received an email confirming the change. Today, I'm loving  Directv - I don't think I have ever had a more pleasant interaction with Directv Sat, Directv stream or Dish.

Now that we have had DirecTV Stream for almost 9 months, I am still very pleased with the service.  As you know, they have increased the Cloud DVR retention time to 9 months - this is helpful.  I never thought I would need the ability to watch my service on any device, anywhere, anytime but, I have indeed found that useful at times. My "old" cable service keeps trying to entice me back with their "new" streaming service that they claim allows you to stream "anywhere, anytime, any device". The truth of that is you can only stream certain channels away from your home. And those channels are junk. Nothing you would want to actually watch can be streamed outside the home. I have come to despise the cable TV industry - and the localities who allow them to have monopolies in many cities - such as mine.
