Switch from old grandfathered plan to a new plan
I am interested in switching from my grandfathered "Gotta Have It" plan to the current "Ultimate" plan. When try to do this on line, the only options are other grandfathered plans such as "Just Right" or "Go Big". Is there any way to change from an old plan to a new plan without cancelling the service and possibly losing my current recordings?

DIRECTV STREAM support should be able to help you out. And, to confirm, cancelling service and signing up with a different email address WILL permanently erase recordings, as they are attached to individual accounts and cannot be transferred to other accounts.

I called DirecTV support twice. The first time I was sent to sales and the sales rep tried to make the change but was unable. The second time I called got technical support and I was told the only way to make the change was to cancel my existing service and signup as a new customer. What makes this more interesting is my channel guide shows NFL Network starting July 17th. I also saw another source which said NFL Network would not be available to grandfathered accounts. Some time in the next 10 days, I will cancel my account and start a new one. You would think DirecTV would make this process easy as anytime someone has to cancel service to make a change, there is a chance they may consider a competing service...
