refused refund

I had cancelled through a chat session and was told I was "all set" and wouldnt be charged anymore. I was charged again on Jan 14 2023. I did another chat which took way to long just to be told to call another number. So I called the billing number I assume it was. I was told by Misty that they didn't get anything that I had previously cancelled and said because we have been using the service couldnt get a refund. I told her we were not using it as we already have a different and cheaper provider and it was supposed to be cancelled. She then said someone from Lynn was logging in and watching?? I said I dont live in Lynn so there was the proof someone hacked into my account and was watching. Misty said thats not enough proof that someone is hacking and even if they were not our problem. Really great customer service! I called my bank and had a stop put on the Direct Tv payment but they said it takes 3 days and the payment will still through and that Direct TV should issue a refund for this. I will tell everyone I know about their practices and I will never become a customer of theirs again. They are definitely a shady corporation. They let hackers in your account and charge you for it.

You have to call DTV 1-800-531-5000 to cancel and DTV no longer prorates the final bill so you pay for and receive service until the end of your billing cycle.  DTV has no way to know if you are using the service or not or even if the receivers are connected to the dish.

The only way to cancel is calling DirecTV. You cannot cancel through a chat agent. And no chat transcripts are saved to the account. They are just supplmental 'help' to regular customer support.

Nobody at DirecTV knows if you are using the service or not. The satellite feed is one-way to you. It is a monthly subscription, not usage based.

Cancellation goes through at the end of the bill cycle. They do not prorate any remaining days. This is how billing has worked for the final bill since Jan 2019 (4 years ago).

As for the logging in and using the service, that sounds like pure hogwash. They don't get usage detals. All they can see is your monthly service and if any one-time purchases of PPVs go through. They have no knowledge of when or what you watch.

As this is how DirecTV (satellite) works, there is no refund expected. But I would see about submiting a complaint regarding the chat agent gave wrong direction and the one over the phone seemed to have made something up. The corporation is not shady but you dealt with 2 bad agents, which is something no company is immune from.

They did know who was using the service and they knew the city so you don't seem knowledgeable.

Satellite is one-way transmission. That is to you, not back to DirecTV. It is a receiving dish. Most likely agent made up that info or was looking at something else. With all the new and outsourced agents these days to make up for the short-staffing, this has become too common.

Now if you had DIRECTV STREAM instead, that may have more details since that is streaming-only.

I have given you accurate info. And here is the notice about the change in no longer prorating:

Please read this if you receive DIRECTV, AT&T U-verse® TV, AT&T Internet, AT&T Phone, and/or AT&T Fixed Wireless service(s). We want to remind you that you’re billed in advance for recurring service(s) and/or programming charges and applicable fees based on the terms of your current service agreement(s) with us. Starting January 14, 2019, subject to applicable laws, we’re updating your agreement(s) to include your recurring service(s)/programming charges and fees won’t be prorated if you cancel the above service(s) on any day other than the last day of your billing cycle. Your service(s) will continue until the end of your billing cycle but you won’t get a refund (prorated credits) for any remaining days left in your billing cycle. For products not listed above, refer to their terms of service for more information.

You've posted in the DirecTV satellite section. I'll move your thread to DIRECTV STREAM. (not Direct Tv)

You don't have to "log in" to use the service so what service do you actually have? Satellite or streaming? Directv CAN NOT see who's using the service or where they're located.
