How to cancel DirectvStream

We have been Directv customers for 4+ years for our home. Recently when staying at a VRBO where the tv access was only through apps via a smart TV, and not having any experience with app based tv, we tried throwing our Directv signal from our laptop to the smart tv. That was not successful as Directv directed us to DirectvStream. Which of course is not included with our current Directv service. 

So, reading in the company literature that DirectvStream is cancellable at any time, I signed up for DirectvStream and used it successfully at the VRBO.

Now at home, with no further need of DirectvStream, I am trying to cancel.

I can't even accurately describe the confusion that ensued. Trying to log in with the credentials I used for setting up the DirectvStream account, I'm told that I don't have the correct password. And somehow I get thrown between DirectvStream, Directv, and ATT websites. It's almost as if it can't find a subscription for me on DirectvStream.

After a 45 minute chat with Directv website (where they insist that these are separate companies), I was instructed to call a certain "directvstream" phone number... which answered and then disconnected.

I fail to see any separation between these organizations as I keep getting redirected to Directv.

Anyone had trouble similar to this? 

The instructions online of how to cancel DirectvStream say to simply log in, and select Cancel Service. Hmmm. If only I could log in....

Give me a number for a help center please?

U know there are separate apps for Dtv satellite customers and Dtv stream customers. Are u a satellite customer or did u sign up as a stream customer?

DIRECTV stream and DIRECTV are separate offerings by one company.  They have separate support infrastructure because there is very little knowledge that is useful between the two services (e.g. knowing about satellite dish LNBs hold no value regarding the streaming service app, and vice versa).

Clicking on the Help link on the bottom of the page will take you to where you can online chat, come back here, or post to twitter or facebook.  It also offers you a chance to login to get the correct phone number.

DIRECTV does not expect you to have both DIRECTV satellite and DIRECTV stream services at once, and I actually think it says that DIRECTV stream is not available for DIRECTV satellite and U-verse TV customers.  The fact that you have managed to get both may be part of your issue.

UPDATE: Actually, what DIRECTV says is "Offer not available to DIRECTV and U-verse TV customers switching to DIRECTV STREAM," i.e. the discount offers available for new subscribers do not apply when coming from U-verse TV or DIRECT satellite.

I am a 4+ year subscriber to satellite Directv. I then also signed up as a stream customer.

Yes, so you have two different accounts with the same company.  Their support website login system probably never contemplated such as situation as you.

yes, same email account. different passwords. but that is part of the problem. stream doesn't recognize the password I set it up with, wants me to change password. When I do that, then the password for satellite seems to forget its password and only recognizes the stream password. 

What do you think if I wait until I actually get a bill from directvStream. I have never received any hardware equipment, nor any welcome mailers so maybe I don't have an account with Stream -- although i used the app for 10 days in October at the Vacation House.

I don't want to accidentally cancel my directv satellite which we use daily at home.

@Buddy3cats I don't think you will get a physical bill from Directv Stream. They are an automatic billing service so they will just automatically bill your method of payment.
