How do you manage devices and log off unauthorized users?

I have been trying to sign off an unauthorized user for months with no luck. Has any one been able to? Customer support said to change my password, but this doesn't work.

Don’t know how changing the password doesn’t fix the issue. That should immediately trigger every streaming device/logged in device to need new authorization (AKA the new password). If it isn’t given, the user is locked out of the account.

In a rare occurrence, the device you are using to change the password is infested with a ‘virus’ that copies the new password and sends it via email to the hacker. With this happening, your best bet is changing the password on an IOS device or similar phone/tablet.

The best way is not to share your credentials to others. Lessons earned!

I didn't share my credentials. Here is a lesson for you to learn. There are other instances where you can be logged into a device without sharing a username and password with someone such as:

  • Logging into a device at an airbnb or hotel
  • Selling an old device such as a Roku or Apple TV where you are logged in
  • Signing into a friends TV while visiting
  • Breaking up with a girlfriend or boyfriend or a going through a divorce and someone has possession of the device

@detuch254 This is because DirecTV has a limitation where they do not revoke anyone who is currently logged in when a password is changed. I understand you may think I fall under the rare case and I may have a keylogger or virus installed, but Customer Support has confirmed with me, they cannot manage a device remotely nor does changing the password revoke devices currently logged in. Ask them yourself.

You were given wrong information. That doesn’t even sound right to me. Heck, at that point, support is better off telling you to cancel your current DIRECTV STREAM account and re-sign up with a different email and password.

Either way, it is your responsibility to manage the devices and your credentials.

Please prove me wrong.

I have chatted with 7 Customer Service agents using Directv chat and 2 on the phone. None could help. I mean they attempted to help but they could not find a solution and admitted it doesn't work.

Last week I changed my password and as an experiment, I wanted to see if my Roku would log me off. Customer support said give it 24 hours. 7 days later, that Roku can still stream, remove DVR episodes, watch movies on demand.

Changing your password does not sign you out automatically.

Hi. Any luck to your issue? I just left an Airbnb place and realized that I didn't uninstall or logged out from my DirecTV acct that I pulled down on the host Roku..:(

@bcbsncjlj - one never runs of luck. If keeps trying. And has some positive attitude. You seemed to luck some judging by your "constructive" replies history 🧐🗿.Or lack of.😉

@your_support_sinks - if you still have the issue, I'd suggest you try DTV CS again😎. I got my issue fixed today! And yes, I changed my password but think that didnt do it. And yes, I did asked the ABNB host to log me out but she confirmed later was not able to. So that leaves my two separate DTV CS chats which were not productive as nothing new was revealed - they said they can't do anything "about remotely resetting". But seems were quite aware of the issue and indicated "they are working on it",etc. When I pressed a bit more, chatted with next level managers, did throw the notion to them that this inability of ATT to "protect a paying customer of his service being misused by someone else and open the door for some nasty liabilit for them", etc..had some sway since...

Couple of hours later, all my firesricks at home plus my app on the phone opened with the logging screen and asked for my login credentials! It has never ever been the case in the past! Someone, somewhere did something 🤘✌️

That's great news @Kokila2018

I bugged support for weeks, and my temporary solution was to have multiple streams going at the same time in my house so no on else could use a stream else where. It worked but was a more naive approach to the problem.

Hopefully we'll be able to remotely log off devices in the future.

And maybe separate User profiles :)

And maybe 4k streaming :D

Someone has hacked our account and continues to buy movies on our account. I have called DIRECT TV but they were not able to help me. We have changed the password twice and created new pins twice. The person can still access my account and buy/rent movies. Any hints on how to kick them off our system?

@bcbsncjlj - that's ill advise suggestion IMHO. As @your_support_sinks had pointed out in his original post, things are never black and white😉😎. In my case, this is not option as I have a grandfathered plan, pay less than the general public (even with the latest fee increases in the past few years) and am pretty sure cancelling and signing up again, ATT would Not offer me back my original plan 🤙

@BridgetB - keep pressing DTV CS! They sure know and/or track who signs from where, when, etc. And for sure can control it as am certain they can't wait to implement and cash in, just like Netflix recently announced, to monetize on multi users sharing! And for that, they have to have  or already have mechanism to "see it and control it" 😎

Grandfathered here also. You are right that AT&T will not offer the original plan back, especially since DirecTV is a separate company now. No need to include their name in the conversation.
